Ok so the new Sigur Rós album, Me› Su› í Eyrum Vi› Spilum Endalaust (With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly), is good. In fact, it’s amazing, my favourite album of theirs to date, and totally makes me wish I’d bought a ticket to their Sydney Splendour sideshow. Hey… I think my little brother has a spare…

It always slightly annoys me when a super-hyped/anticipated album actually turns out to be worth it all, I’d be quite happy to live in a world where the hype was contained to new Coldplay albums and the like, so I could leave the masses to fawn over something I’m not even marginally interested in while I quietly listen to my favourite bands that barely even exist yet. But because of Sigur Rós, I’ll be just like everyone else, raving my little heart out about this album to whomever will listen, because fuck, “Ára bátur” is the result of 90 musicians, including the London Sinfonietta and London Oratory Boy’s Choir, all playing live at once, recorded in just one take. And that’s just one of the eleven brilliant tracks on this album that will almost have you convinced as you’re listening to them that at that moment there is no other music but Sigur Rós.

The album is set to be released on June 23rd, but you can pre-order a copy now at sigurros.com and receive a digital copy a week prior to its release, and the option to purchase a “deluxe edition,” which looks like it would be worth every cent.

i love them with a passion that’s almost physical. at one point i (coincidentally…) chased them around the world and managed to see them in paris, then vancouver, then perth. it was positively spiritual. and now i’ve bought myself a ticket to see them on august 1, just for that little bit of extra impetus to get back to melbourne :) can’t wait to hear the new one, are you working off the streaming version?
