Oh look, more festivals. With underwhelming line-ups. First up is the one I won’t be attending: early June’s We Love Sounds. It features some nice international names such as Bonde Do Rolê, The Bravery, !!!, Cassius, Mr Oizo and The Whip, plus some quality local acts. However, for those of you who don’t know North Sydney’s Greenwood Hotel, (which is host to Sounds on Sunday, a We Love Sounds affiliate) the former chapel-cum-nightclub is locally notorious for being a popular venue for the cashed-up and the underaged, (security what?!) the pavement nearby proving itself time and again to be much better at holding their alcohol than they are. Except in the pavement’s case, it’s usually in the form of spew. So many times leaping over it on my Monday morning run and I find myself pretty disinterested in the whole “Sounds” operation. Instead, !!! and Mr Oizo sideshows will do just fine. For those of you who do want to go though, there are still tickets on sale at the Ticketek website.
Next up will be the legendary Splendour in the Grass in early August, which Ned’s already mentioned below (my wavelength! Get off…). Unfortunately we have yet another disappointing line-up. I’ll still be going, for Vampire Weekend, Sigur Rós, and Band of Horses, and the repeat must-sees: The Presets, Pnau, The Vines, and of course, MSTRKRFT. But remember, there’s also the second line-up announcement to invest all your hopes in… Register your details at Q Jump now to make your Splendour ticket buying on the 22nd slightly less painful.

Hey Bec, complain some more! I’d be amped if that second line up rolled through anywhere within three hours of me.
And there is anti-American security at the Greenwood. When I saw Uffie and Feadz there the security guard laughed at my ID and made me listen to his Texas jokes before I could go in. Absolutely. Hilarious. Ha. Ha.
Bec – I will deffo be at We Love Sounds. !!!, Cassius, Oizo and the Whip make that a pretty sweet lineup. And the Bravery! That said if I can afford to only go to the sideshows I will do that because we all know how intensely I dislike festivals: as much as I dislike short sentences.
Greg – that mega sucks dude. I hope I don’t get treated like that when I come over to the states eventually. Though I can’t think of any jokes about Australians you might say, funny or otherwise…
Greg, you should’ve just said, “are y’all gonna let me in or what?” and they’d have been so charmed with your whole Texan thing they probably would have bought you drinks. Maybe.
And yes, I have festival fatigue, and it shows.
Nah, it wasn’t bad. It was just brutally unfunny. Dude thought he was straight killin’ it and was just cracking up and I had to laugh along in the most fake manner imaginable. He also told me I was too drunk to come in, but then I explained that I’ve got the scientifically proven “AZN Glow” and he let me in no problem.
