VHS Or BETA - Free!

I got a text last night from supreme DJ Fierce Brosnan about a couple of free passes to VHS Or BETA and had to go. Turns out you don’t need to pay even half of the ticket price!

I got in a little late and caught the last couple of tracks of Yves Klein Blue. Maybe I am being unreasonably cynical here but they reminded me of a couple of awesome bands in Perth if you took all the soul out of them and added a shitload of posturing. I just wasn’t into it at all. They were musically proficient but that was about it.

VHS Or BETA on the other hand were great opening up with single Burn It All Down, setting the scene for a really enjoyable show. The difference between these two bands was that one had a heart and a purpose and one had it’s eyes on a record deal. VHS Or BETA might not have had all the cool stage moves (though they had plenty) but they just seemed to fit so well up their on stage.

Catch them at the Zoo in Brisbane tonight and the Factory Theatre in Sydney on Friday night, again with Yves Klein Blue.

I saw VHS or Beta a few years ago and they were amazing live. I went out and bought the album the next day and was disappointed. The live energy I heard wasn’t the same on CD, in my opinion. I’d definitely see them again anytime though.

They played an awesome set in Sydney. Then it all went downhill during their DJ set at SNKRS when they played Put Your Hands Up For Detroit followed by Satisfaction.

Consistently awesome music. The crowd is always hit and miss though. Some nights you’ll go and you’ll know every second person there, other nights the crowd is made up of 40-year-old guys and eighteen-year-old girls.
