Van She: V (Finally)

This is the album I have been most excited about this year and it’s wonderful to find that I am not in the least disappointed, which is something that happens all too frequently when it comes to releases that are surrounded by the amount of hype that Van She’s V has. I’ve been trying to figure out just what I love so much about Van She and I’ve decided it’s that they’ve captured the gleeming fantastical and set it to music with their swirling layers of synth and pretty, flighty vocals (not unlike the stuff of Cut Copy’s In Ghost Colours), and yet there is something so beautifully human about their struggle to run this alongside their tremendously trendy dance-rock sound. Van She still have room to grow with the release of V, but this album is so so brilliant, deftly constructed, and was absolutely worth the wait.

Pick it up from Modular on the 9th and visit their Myspace page for upcoming tour dates.

Van She have been touring relentlessly in Australia and I wonder if this is starting to pay off. Maybe this is the sound the kids want to hear?

I’ve heard a lot of comparisons to In Ghost Colours but I don’t know if that’s really fair. Although I’ve always been more of a Cutters fanboy than Van She which is largely due to Cutters pumping out more quantity and quality over the last three years.

Yeah, I didn’t mean to belittle them or anything by mentioning In Ghost Colours, just that I think it’s a sound that’s around at the moment that I think is pretty appealing.
