In a shrewd move by Modular Van She are re-releasing their best track to date Kelly with a stack of remixes.
When I first heard about this I thought it was a pretty cynical thing to do for a company who’ve had a few losses over the last couple of years. It’s a great track but is this really necessary? Surely they could invest that cash in a new act, help buy back some of the Bumblebeez gear from the meth heads who stole it or throw another half million bucks at the Avalanches new album Chinese Democracy.
This is also the fourth time the track has been released having originally featured on their debut E.P. “Van She” in 2005, then as a 12″ in 2006 and it got tweaked again for this years album, “V”.
At the end of the day it really is a great track and seeing how Van She are getting a lot wider exposure now maybe some of the kids missed out on Kelly the first time around. I also don’t think Modular did it for the money, they must be getting fairly cashed up right now with Ladyhawke, Tame Impala, the Presets etc etc.
At the end of the day I don’t really care because it means we get some fucking great remixes. M83, Shinichi Osawa, Lifelike and Breakbot all put their two cents in with M83 and Breakbot coming out on top.
Van She – Kelly (Breakbot remix)
Looking forward to catching these guys next time they roll through town, it’s been too long since I’ve seen them live. They are just about to start a European/US tour too, details in the comments or go to their myspace here!

THANX Buddy.
Shame that the re-worked version on the album is vastly inferior to the old EP version.
SylvAin: you are so welcome my Taiwanese friend
Nick: I agree, the new album version sucks. Maybe the rerelease is to show people it’s actually a good track.
any word on when we will hear the M83 mix?
Zachary- here’s a link to DiscoattacK who in turn sent me here for the above remix. They have the M83 rmx your looking for!
Respect, from Paisley- Scotland

Fantastic! Kelly is so retro-perfect, but I agree with the other commenters- the EP version is far superior.
i really hope that nick is nick littlemore.
modular don’t make money off recorded music. they make money off licensing/sync rights and touring.
the kelly ep’s just another way to keep the hype bubbling along.
hype that allows them to make big bucks getting their music into ad campaigns.
it’s the new model, it’s the best model, I’m in awe etc.
I actually agree on the comments being made that the EP version is far more superior than the new version. That’s not to say the new model isn’t good, but the classic IS a classic and didn’t need retouching.
Which version has been shipped off to radio? A new edit of the EP version or an edit of the album version?
