It’s always pretty embarrassing when someone from overseas discovers an act from your country (and your city no less), before you’ve even heard of them, but that was the case with THIS/Is. Of course, I suppose if it had to happen, I’m glad it was Aleks from Discodust who did it. THIS/Is are a Sydney-based duo consisting of Nix and Alan, who produce the kind of hard, driving, dancefloor-melting awesomeness that I don’t really accumulate enough of these days, which is why lately whenever I go to a club that plays it I lose my shit (lately…?). This is what you should be breaking your disco habit for. Hell, if they’re good enough for Teenage Bad Girl, D.I.M., The Bloody Beetroots and Les Petits Pilous, they’re good enough for the rest of us. They even have an official remix of Just A Band’s “Burn It Out” under their belts, and it’s all kinds of excellent. I cannot wait to see these guys play out.
