There’s something wrong with Australian electro. It all sounds so predictable, so prosaic but still, somehow, oh-so-good.
Such is the case with my hot tip for 2009 blog domination. The Vanish straddle the gap between Grafton Primary’s bright posturing and the Midnight Juggernauts’ dusky theatrics.. all wrapped up in a “Cold Youth” t-shirt.
The Vanish are two guys, one from Sydney and one from San Francisco who’ve earned their stripes playing in various bands here and there. Their first track, ’Hold On’, is a sunny, post-french touch Sydney-electro jam. So far so good…
My only concern is the inevitable Peak Oil moment that Australian (particularly Sydney) electro is going to have to face sooner or later. With competition from your Ted’s and Francis’ and resurgent Bagraiders and Lost Valentinos, not to mention Cut Copy et al.. as far as I see it there’s not much room in the market for new Aussie electro.
Still, there’s alot of unadventurous people out there.. so who knows.
Anyway, these guys are still at the bedroom phase, no shows upcoming that I’m aware of and nary a MySpace to speak of… so jump on board while its still indy and fresh. Just how Electrorash likes it.
