Sometimes when I listen to too much electronic music I start to get concerned that a part of my soul might be dying. Don’t get me wrong, my love for electro is pure, but I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t need the occasional dose of heart-swelling, butterfly-inducing pop sensibility to complement it. With its sweet and unassuming quality, Swedish electro-pop does just the trick, those wonderfully endearing accents rendering it (in my head anyway) the musical equivalent of a good-natured basset hound. (What?!)
One such Swedish electro-pop outfit is The LK, (The Love of Kevin, Colour, Chaos, and the Sound of K) a collaboration between two lanky Swedes, Lindefelt and Fredrik, and also the brainchild of the former who is himself a rather fascinating musician. Lindefelt uses his synaesthetia (a condition of the senses, which in his case causes him to hear colours) in combination with his expert pop craftsmanship to create a gorgeous, buoyant sound as captured by their debut full-length, Vs. The Snow. The crisply atmospheric album, which embodies a Postal Service-type catchiness, is set for release on the 4th March, but can be pre-ordered on the Kora Records website now. They also have a US tour scheduled early this year, so keep an eye on their Myspace page for details.
