Latest signing to Sydney based label Future Classic is New Navy. It’s Gold Fields via Last Dinosaurs via Strange Talk – pretty much everything any an impressionable triple j listener would juice themselves over.

Zimbabwe is the name of the first single of New Navy’s ‘Uluwatu’ EP, and Lancelot has first dibs on a re-rub. And boy oh boy oh boy oh boy is this smooth and silky:

So a bloke called Clancy with a new EP that has a big meow meow cat on the cover dropped us a note saying ‘oi, lads, check this music’. To this we said ‘aight, and were very pleasantly surprised to find nestled within the package a phenomenal retro electro mix from local man Beaumont.

Ten points for generous slices of house piano and and five bonus points for throwing down some Binary-esque synesthesia over bassline friendly time signature.

How do you like your coffee?

Strong, with a good squirt of this thick sugary condensed milk stuff they have here that comes in a tube. Yum!

What’s the best thing to do in Canberra on a rainy day?

Stormwater drain surfing.

How does the trance scene in Canberra compare to London or Los Angeles?

That’s a hard question to answer. Both cities are massive so obviously they’re much better suited to supporting a trance scene week in week out. In Canberra you usually have to wait a little while longer for the right party to come along but when it happens it’s usually a big one.

Tell me about the Miami Winter Conference party at the Ice Palace? Any stand out tracks or moments from the night?

Was loads of fun! It really was like a big palace, with huge outdoor gardens and everything. Loads of people there, standout moment of the night for me was when James Grant and I played our own remix of BT’s Flaming June in the Anjunadeep room.

Who’s your hot pick for 2011 that appears on Anjunadeep:03… personally Solarity does it for me.

Kobana & Yane3Dots, Roddy Reynaert and Soundprank are getting better all the time. You’re on the money with Solarity also, got to see them spin for a while in London last weekend and they were great!

Given all the travelling you do at the moment, what does your mobile studio setup look like? Any particular software suites you rely upon?

Basically when I’m travelling it’s usually just my 15″ Macbook pro and my headphones. At home I use a Motu Ultralite but when I’m travelling I have a smaller Apogee One interface, which also has a condenser microphone in it that allows me to do voicovers my radio shows while I’m on the go. I also have a a pair of tiny Fostex monitor speakers that are small enough to take on the road every now and then. As for software suites, the biggest addition to my collection lately has been Omnisphere. It’s basically a whole suite of recorded and synthesized instruments, incredibly versatile and the amount of content contained in it is mind-boggling.

When can we catch you back in Australia?

June 29th->July 21st. Can’t wait!

Are Australians as receptive to trance and progressive house as other nations you’ve toured?

Yep, especially at the bigger festivals. It can be harder to pull a big crowd than somewhere like the US but given the right setting Aussies rock it like the best of them.

Finally any big remixes or releases planned for your good self?

I’m remixing Super8 & Tab at the moment. My new single Paradox is out this week and the next one is in the works. My second artist album is well underway as well, due for release mid year.

Finally, finally – if the dance music world had to split down the middle and join the forces of Van Burren or Tiesto for an epic battle to the death, which side would you join and why?

Tiesto, he’s got big muscles

Melbourne’s Trumpdisco have firmly established themselves in the rusty, condemned and hard-as-nails firmament of Australia, nay, South-East Asia’s hard electro circuit.

Bang0rz so bang0r they’ll punch you the knob then use their clenched fist to shake your hand. WITH PUNCHES.

You know we love Teenage Crime, there are certain moments in life when acoustic guitar and progressive pad lines don’t stimulate the bile duct, and Mr Lux is all over it.

Go and surprise someone you love this weekend by dropping this most abrasively large and dubstomped rendition of Teenage Crime on the car stereo. Whoever that person may be, they’ll be happy for it after they get their ear-drum retrieval surgery.

Got to see these these guys FINALLY the other week thanks to my fav people over at Ivy League records.
The live show was frenetic, if not a bit flayed in spots, but the rambunctious group rocketted along under the whimsical lead of Louise and Phoebe – Alpine’s front-women-in-the-making.
