Melbourne based DJ 1928 has just dropped this bomb mix for electrorash.com. It’s a far cry from the chilled out sounds of the recent Verbena Rewind mix we dropped or the Justice “Fabric Live” mixtape and brings the party into your FACE!

1928 has been busy DJing around Melbourne with acts like Knightlife, DJ Darlin from Cut Copy and the Midnight Juggernaut DJ’s. He even made a trip to Adelaide to play his Femme Fatales remix to their home crowd.

The mix was recorded live using a combination of vinyl and cd’s, highlighting the technical skills of 1928 as a DJ. It also features a shit load of Australian talent in there from Master Celebrator to Midnight Juggernauts, Ooh-ee & Loot, the Presets…
As the title suggests Buffetlibre DJ’s are kicking off their “Music Tastes Better With You” tour in London this Saturday at the Casino Royale Club at Barfly in Camden and then kicking on to Barcelona, Madrid, Paris…

They will be spinning their characteristic mix of bleeding edge electro with some old favourites thrown in for good measure. Personally I am hoping they play a lot of food themed tracks like “Ice Cream” by Muscles/New Young Pony Club/Soft Tigers (where is THAT mashup?) or maybe they could just play “E Talking” Tiga. What? E is a food!

The tour is promoting the Verbena Selected session (which Dan got in on the ground floor back here) in which the Buffetlibre DJ’s have been joined by artists such as Midnight Juggernauts, Simian Mobile Disco, Bag Raiders, Pomomofo, The Bloody Beatroots, D.I.M. and Shitdisco in the making of the set. You can download it straight off their well decent site at http://buffetlibre.net.

And another thing: before each of their events they are giving away one of 250 t-shirts from some of the top designers around the world. Can someone in Australia please give away tshirts at gigs already? I knew there was something missing from the Aussie DJ experience but couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

Enjoy this mix the guys have put together called “Verbena Rewind” full of some really tasty tracks, including the Never Ending Story by the great man Moroder:

Tracklist:
1.Sintonia Buffetlibre
2.Ray Parker Jr. – Ghostbusters
3.Communards – Don’t Leave Me This Way
4.Desireless – Voyage Voyage
5.Human League – Don’t You Want Me
6.Pet Shop Boys – Always On My Mind (Extended Mix)
7.New Order – Bizarre Love Triangle (Extended Mix)
8.Bananarama – Love In The First Degree
9.Kylie Minogue – The Locomotion
10.Trans X – Living On A Video
11.Dead Or Alive – You Spin Me Round
12.Yazoo – Situation (12” mix)
13.Eurythmics – Sweet Dreams
14.Depeche Mode – Just Can’t Get Enough
15.Giorgio Moroder & Limahl – NeverEnding Story
16.Franco Battiato – Yo Quiero Verte Danzar

I went to the Big Day Out and it was good. It’s the eighth I’ve been to, and while it wasn’t VERY good, it was still good. Melbourne’s new venue at the Flemington Racecourse (as opposed to the Showgrounds located at Flemington racecourse – go figure) was very spacious and well managed. You could stand a few light-years away and still see the band without comprising too much on sound. For example:

And it still kicked arse! But it wasn’t all peachy. I was front row for Midnight Juggernauts, and could barely hear what Vince was mumbling about. They still kicked out the jams though, and had a modest mosh by the end of their set. And Andy, the guitarist, was wearing a Kavinsky ‘Dead Cruiser‘ tee, which is totally sweet by me. Less than sweet with me, though, was some fat, sweaty shit who kept feeling up my lady-friends…

Midnight Juggernauts – Nine Lives

Pnau was like a circus. At one point about eight random objects joined the band on stage to get their crunk on.

That annoying singer from Operator Please joined Pnau for a bombastic take on Baby and Luke Steele of the Sleepy Jackson joined Nick and co. on stage for Freedom. Manic, hands-in-the-air stuff, but if i were Pnau I’d be slightly concerned about the high concentration of Muzzas in attendance. Not from Melbourne? Well a Muzza looks something like this.

Highlight of the set was definitely Dancing on the Water, which went from an unassuming bopper on the album to a fist-flinging fuckstorm when played live.

Pnau – Dancing On The Water

Arcade Fire? It was impossible to get up close but even from my vantage point all i can say is: do yourself a favour and see them live before you die. Like, if you’re currently terminally ill, call up the Starlight Foundation now and get them to fly you to their next gig. Or at least buy the DVD for you.

Stay tuned for part two.

2. Silverchair – Straight Lines
3. Kings Of Leon – On Call

This is great news for Midnight Juggernauts and independent labels.

When the Juggers started out they created their own label, Siberia Records, to produce all of their music and maintain commercial and creative control over their output. When the labels started to take notice they were competing for a slice of the distribution deal and couldn’t own the artists or the music itself.

This has turned out to be a very shrewd move for them as they have just signed a deal with EMI to distribute their music internationally – and finally crack some of those bigger overseas markets with more than illegal downloads. Up until now their debut album has only be distributed in Australia (through EMI Australia) while they cemented the international distribution deal.

This year the trio of Vincent, Andy and Stricker will be basing themselves in Europe while they tour their asses off. But never fear they will be back again and you can still catch them before they leave as they will be playing farewell shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

TUE 11th MARCH – Sydney, Enmore Theatre (LIC / ALL AGES)

Ok so this isn’t really a Fabric Live mix but it could have been.

So here’s the story: Fabric ask Justice to put together a mix compilation for their popular Fabric Live series. They would have been following in the footsteps of the most excellent Cut Copy and Spank Rock mixes. So Justice decided to put together something a little different, something that would stand out from the crowd instead of just another fucking mixtape featuring all of the songs we have heard a billion times in the last 6 months.

“We didn’t want to do just another boring mix, so we put together a selection of tunes we absolutely love, mainly weird disco tracks and French novelty acts. But Fabric turned it down. They weren’t ready for something like this. Maybe we’ll put the mix out ourselves. People should really hear it, they’d be surprised.” – Xavier de Rosnay

So they released the mix themselves and dubbed it the Xmas mix. And here it is. Enjoy it, it is ten times better than you will ever be.

Ahhh this one is special.

So indie/blog darlings, HEALTH and The Teenagers are already on the NarcTrax bandwagon, and now the ubiquitous Kitsune Maison have joined them, requesting a remix from him of that Cazals track that stormed the blogs not so long ago. I just love Cazals and their I’m-ever-so-accidentally-pretty-and-I-don’t-even-know-it vibe. The only disappointment I had with their most recent (and debut Kitsune) release, To Cut A Long Story Short, was the homogeneity of the remixes that came with it. Sure, the distorted electro treatment courtesy of Autokratz and Streetlife DJs suited the track very well indeed, but it didn’t really surprise me.

Enter NarcTrax with his spacey synths and failsafe ability to produce an original-sounding remix, and now that Cazals track sounds like a cross between Kavinsky, Midnight Juggernauts and Cut Copy. Yes, you heard me. Seems like if you want your track remixed into something that isn’t half obvious, Eddie Van Narc(Trax) is your man. So well played, Kitsune. Well played.
