In a shrewd move by Modular Van She are re-releasing their best track to date Kelly with a stack of remixes.

When I first heard about this I thought it was a pretty cynical thing to do for a company who’ve had a few losses over the last couple of years. It’s a great track but is this really necessary? Surely they could invest that cash in a new act, help buy back some of the Bumblebeez gear from the meth heads who stole it or throw another half million bucks at the Avalanches new album Chinese Democracy.

This is also the fourth time the track has been released having originally featured on their debut E.P. “Van She” in 2005, then as a 12″ in 2006 and it got tweaked again for this years album, “V”.

At the end of the day it really is a great track and seeing how Van She are getting a lot wider exposure now maybe some of the kids missed out on Kelly the first time around. I also don’t think Modular did it for the money, they must be getting fairly cashed up right now with Ladyhawke, Tame Impala, the Presets etc etc.

At the end of the day I don’t really care because it means we get some fucking great remixes. M83, Shinichi Osawa, Lifelike and Breakbot all put their two cents in with M83 and Breakbot coming out on top.

You’ve probably been seeing a bit of Montag’s sexy, pop-fresh, melancholic remixes hyped up around teh intraweb, nailing a recent remix of M83′s Kim and Jessie will tend to do that for a completely incognito, experimental synth-popper.

Hey…. maybe you should try it too and YOU can get famous on Ye olde interwebbe. Go on – download a copy of Reason and dust off old Yamaha keyboard your step dad Greg gave you the first Christmas after your mum ran off with him. You know the one! Takes old-school midi cables, but that’s a’ight, cause Cash Converters got that bizzle in spades, yo. Call yourself something mysterious and uni-syllabic, like Doorknob or Doc Roc or Justice, then just get hell famous and buttfuck my inbox with your ‘blends’ for the next three months until you get that raise at work.

Montag’s better than that, this bloke’s a musician. His orchestrations, for want of a less ghey term, are lush and textured and oh-so-rewarding after the odd two or three spins. He’s channeling the best of indy-pop – m83, Stars (bands he has both remixed) and Broken Social Scene, and he doesn’t even look like much of a wanker. Kudos!
