Levins and Nina – the kind musical souls behind the Heaps Decent outreach programs, have shot us a new track from one of their sessions at a NSW detention centre.

Produced by the one and only A-Trak, this jam features young, institutionalised Australians venting real frustrations through rap. Once you get past the obvious ‘home-taping’ style, one can’t help but be moved by the stark realities facing young indigenous people who, through misadventure or lack of education and opportunity, find themselves swept into the grind of Australia’s justice system.

So have a listen (because it’s A-Trak and he’s uber-dope), then have another listen while reading up on the rest of Heaps Decent’s work over here

…is cool.

So cool in fact he turned down an offer from Jay-Z to be his touring DJ. Mans got skills, and this definitely proves he’s got balls. He’s already Kanye West’s touring DJ, so perhaps this was a premeditated effort to prevent ‘beef’ from occurring.

And he’s got a new LP coming out soon. And he’s collaborating with Nike on a project soon. AND his girlfriend, Kid Sister, is hot too. And her flow is way tighter than my girlfriends’. She’s rubbish at freestyle hip-hop. Makes a mean salad though.

He’s so cool. Look, he’s even wearing an Ed Rec t-shirt! Cool!

And, don’t-cha-know, his remix of Oh! by Boys Noize is the Electrorash feature track of the week on SYN. Listen on-line or tune into 90.7FM if you live in Melbourne, and check out their indy-electro night this evening – not only will you hear some tight tunes from 8:00pm – 12:00 pm EST, you’ll get to hear my dulcet tones introducing the feature. Win win!
