Despite being in the fourth row from the front for Kanye (I’m not really sure why I bothered, I knew like three songs) my ultimate highlight for Good Vibrations Sydney was seeing Ed Banger’s youngest superstar, 20-year-old Parisian, Benoit Heitz. Yes, Surkin. Jeez he’s a lovely-looking thing. And not only that, dude really knows how to kick out an awesome party, even when it’s late afternoon and, you know, sunny outside. But he had me dancing hard enough to know it would probably hurt the next day. Which it did/does. I guess that means if you have the chance to check out one of his live sets, oh my god, DO. I’m talking to you, Tokyo, you’re next on his agenda… (And while I’m on the topic of dancing, if you’re one of those idiots who insist upon doing “The Shuffle,” please don’t follow the example of the tool in front of me in the Surkin crowd and ask me if I like it. I’m only going to roll my eyes at you severely and reply, “…are you serious…?”)
Now moving right along, we’re all eagerly hanging out for Surkin’s new four-track EP, Next of Kin, which he’s promised to release in the not-too-distant future on Institubes. It features the nineties tech-house-tastic, White Knight Two, and the significantly more mysterious (on account of a lack of leakage via The Hype Machine) title track, Next of Kin, and Kids Gloves. The former even gets the remix treatment from none other than Todd “Daft Punk Use My Vocals” Edwards. Plus, Heitz has also hinted at a 2008 debut album. A Surkin album. I think my head just exploded.

Where My Nerds At link is broken =S
First things first, Surkin is with Institubes not Ed Banger.
Second things second, Surkin almost killed me when he made my kidneys fail for a few days around June / July last year. I’ve loved him ever since.
Third things third, loving White Knight Too. I would love Where My Nerds At but someone posted a broken link…
only caught the very end of surkin, but managed to see him do a 3-5 am set in june last year and thought he absolutely killed it. one of the sets that really made me realise electro could be about more than just over-dressed hipsters pretending to dance. because i was dancing like a madman. and i very rarely go beyond jeans and a t-shirt. accessories stress me out. sinden was probably my highlight of the (significantly sub-par) melbourne good vibes though, such fun and funky stuff. then again, he didn’t have a lot of competition…
Craig - I thought you were saying to me “where my nerds at? The link is broken - get in there nerds and fix it”. Turns out I should read the post before I moderate the comments.
His Whoreness - you are spot on - Surkin is on Institubes not Ed Banger though he has put out remixes on Ed Banger, Because and even Arcade Mode. But you know what else? I once drank a milkshake from a latex glove.
Luke - it hurts me that Melbourne let you down for Good Vibes
um… why?
melbourne didn’t let me down, people like the utter cow in this story in the age about the sound problems let me down. which i guess is kinda melbourne’s fault, but i try and dissociate the two.
Ha, that chick in the article is such a bitch, get over it, frickin fogie
Yeah man I read that article too - I can’t believe that shit. Looks like the council is changing the laws to prevent people like this making any drastic changes to existing venues.
i know, god forbid that the woman might have to close her doors and/or windows for a few hours. the sheer injustice of it all…
was scanning through the posts….thanks for the post. Surkin was wicked at vibes ohh damn so filthy filthy distorted beats…and thanks his whoreness for clearin up the whole institubes-ed bager thing surkin the youngest up and comer dont thnk he will steel the crown of king institube of para one for a while..aus electro is bangin anyways….
