Sounds of Summer
It’s always kinda funny being lodged in the Southern Hemisphere, and watching all the wonderful summer festival themed dance and indie music emerge from the North side just as we spiral into the depths of winter. Musical irony is awesome. But either way, here’s a quick mish-mash of a post featuring a couple of disparate tracks that have been filtering musical sunshine through my ears of late.
First up is the wonderful Summerized Club remix of ‘Cocked Locked’ by Monosurround. Man, this tune puts me in mind of the good ol’ innocent days of electro. At the beginning of last year. Hmmm. Time moves fast… Every time I hear it though, it makes me remember what it was like the first time I heard the Rex the Dog remix of ‘Tony the Beat’, or the Young Punx take on ‘All This Love’. Beautiful, simple, chanty electro, just like it used to be. Big ups to Fluokids for the tip off. It’s available through Citizen Records as of yesterday. Get onto it.

And second we have more Swedish pop (seriously, what the fuck is going on over there?), this time courtesy of the brilliantly named Air France. Their Last FM profile describes them as ‘the soundtrack to every beach safari’, and I really couldn’t put it better myself. Their recently released EP ‘No Way Down’ is a concise, sweet, 60s beach rock digression loaded with vintage samples, happy-go-lucky riffs and the same smudged nostalgia you find in other people’s polaroids. A glorious defence to the overcast insults of winter. Out now on Sincerely Yours.
