I already displayed my wealth of love for French electro wonder-kids The Shoes back in March, but recently the remixes have been flowing out so thick and fast, and their touring schedule expanding at such a prodigious rate that it seemed only fitting to revisit G and B Shoe and give you all a taste of what’s been happening.
First up is their gloriously summery take on the Mystery Jets’ ‘Young Love, the first single off the MJs highly recommended new album ‘Twenty One’. It’s a simple remix, but The Shoes have taken the gilded 70s guy-girl guitar pop of the original and transformed it into a carefree vision of springtime afternoon house parties. This would probably be that much more effective if Australia wasn’t dipping so precipitously towards the winter months right now, but hell it’s still something to warm us while we slip into hibernation.

On a slightly harder edge is their take on Wiley’s UK grime-house crossover hit ‘Wearing My Rolex’. They’ve bottomed Wiley’s voice out to James Earl Jones dimensions and bulked and chopped up the beats and synths to make something that is far, far more interesting and propulsive than the reasonably prosaic and 2006 sounding original. Also good to see The Shoes putting out something with a bit more ’slam’ to it. Perfect for dancefloors of all ages.

And finally to slow things down a little we have this dark, dirty little creeper of a remix of the track ‘CV 209′ by fellow Reims electro-poppers ALB. Is it just me, or do those string sections sound eerily reminiscent of the first tune off Portishead’s new album? Although I think I’d take this over most of ‘Third’… CONTROVERSY!!!!

So, can we bring them out Ned? Canwecanwecanwecanwecanwecanwecanwecanwecanwecanwe?
