Two months ago Duncan became so infatuated with Russ Chimes’ forthcoming remix of The Outrunners ‘These Girls Are Dressed To Kill’ that he devoted an entire post to the streaming version on Myspace. Which, in this day and age of downloadable 320kbps purism, is one hell of a commitment to make. But the good and generous people over at Us Two Music finally got in contact with us the other day to announce that the ‘These Girls Are Dressed To Kill’ single is due to drop next month (in collaboration with Valerie AND that we’re allowed to throw up the Russ Chimes remix in glorious 320. How awesome? So awesome.

If you didn’t do your Myspace duty way back when, then brace yourselves, because this is one of the most uplifting pieces of retro-fired space disco you are ever likely to hear. While I’ve often found Valerie releases to be a little too attached to their 1980s soundtrack roots to ever be proper dancefloor fodder, this track is further proof, if any was actually needed, that Russ Chimes is the undisputed master of Valerie’s party wing. This remix takes the cruising Delorean keyboards of the original, makes them even more retro – think guitars, keytars and vocoders – throws in a pounding kick drum, a driving bassline, drum rolls and a few well-placed breakdowns, shakes AND stirs, and leaves you with a truly epic, melodic and relentless slab of dancefloor napalm. This is the kind of track that could, of itself, make your night. It’s that good.
