A bit of industry news for you this morning. Some Sydney peeps I know cut loose their new business venture over the weekend. It’s called Posse.com (they paid alot of money for that domain) and it’s not a social networking site for ethnic gangs. Posse is a new platform for bands to sell tickets to shows. Pretty much you sign up to become an agent for a band, you promote their upcoming shows on your personal social networking sites with tools provided by Posse. If some sweet bro purchases a ticket via one of your links you earn a commission. That’s business speak for sweet-ass cash. Benjamins, y’all.
Aussie via Kiwiland rock trio Evermore are Posse’s first test subject. They’re selling their entire national tour via their fans through Posse. I can also tell you that a bunch of other Australian tours this year will be sold through the site, so chances are you’ll be coming across it sometime in 2009.
Your reward for reading this boring post is a new remix from Electrorash buddy boy, Diamond Cut. He’s reworked Evermore’s second single, Hey Boys and Girls, into a sparkling, Valerie-style banger. It’s really goddamn pretty and he’s hinted at some explosive new remixes and collabs to be released in coming months. We’ll keep you posted.

I am into Posse but it there’s not content. I created an account but I can only sell tickets for Evermore and Kate Miller-Heidke.
Yawwwnnnn.
Surely if they’re trying to get the kids into promoting this and trying to get social networking sites and blogs to post stuff they need to have more relevant artists.
Is it tied to Ticketmaster or can other people list gigs? Integration with Sound Alliance or Moshtix would make it better.
Who owns Posse anyway? I heard Phil Morle is involved?
Finally, what is that Posse font? I like it.
I don’t think this is the right forum to be sharing industry secrets Nedwin….
i think posse sucks balls, i’d rather chop Mandu’s incredibly large and virile penis which he surely uses to pleasure lots of women, possibly 3 hot babes at once by the look of it, before i’d promote an evermore gig
REPRESENT!!!
ohhh and i nearly forgot, creating more promoters is just what we need, gig promoters, club promoters, dj promoters, internet promoters, facebook promoters, fucking myspace promoters, JEZZZZUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
now we have posse promoters, the world is a better place now MANDU
oh and for the record
SHIIIIIIIIIIIT name,
i can only gather that they are marketing towards 14 year old’s who “might” think its cool. 20 people = 50 bucks, SHEEEESHHH
Ned.
Firstly, thanks for taking time out to provide feedback. We appreciate it.
Currently there’s just the two artists up but we’re in talk with a whole host of others to get involved. Maybe if you follow us on twitter (@theposse) or subscribe to our blog at http://blog.posse.com you’ll get notifications when something that doesn’t make you yawn gets posted!!
We’d hope that our natural fit includes a lot of indie and emerging artists so naturally we’re trying to get that ASAP.
Phil Morle is involved with Posse, advising us in a CTO capacity. He’s a smart bloke.
The font in our logo is called ITC Avant Garde Gothic and we’ve applied a really tight kerning to it (I have no idea what that means, but I’ve been dropping it in to conversations a lot and get a knowing nod from the typo geeks).
Thanks again for getting in touch.
Sam
Posse
That kerning is well tight. It makes me want to tighten up the kern on the electrorash header so I too can bring it up in conversation. (did I use that right?)
I think the name is pretty good. Short and memorable – it’s the meaning that they attach to it that becomes important.
Hopefully they can get some good promoters and artists on there soon, then maybe Electrorash can actually use the service instead of just talking about it
Hey prince charming, CRLS from HRO called, he wants his self-righteous and poorly educated commenters back.
I quite like this Posse idea and have signed up and all that. Content is, yes, the obvious concern, but this is early days yet so I’ll hold on and hope for the best. The ticketmaster affiliation is a bit of a limitation too.. it would be great if they could shack up with someone like moshtix so you could get grass-roots stuff going with things that are actually possibly grass roots as opposed to the next Paul Kelly concert or whatever. Mind you, the fact that they’re listing a gig at the hifi is promising.
I like the idea of Posse because we’ve got all these things like last.fm and facebook and whatnot that can easily share information on events if only someone will spend the time to enter the stuff in. Posse gives them the incentive and before you know it we might have user-generated, content-rich gig guides. Fuckin’ rad.

do you have any friends on facebook?????? ALEXIO, facebook events are rampant, promoters are pests that overuse facebook and myspace for personnel gain. These sites were never intended for PROMOTERS, they were intended for “friends”.
oh and MANDU, pleaZZZZe post some more, i love your posts. At least Bec doesn’t mix music blog and business interests
CAPICE’
HAIIIII bEC xxx
oh and Mandu i love how you and “POSSE” used the word “agent” to somehow cover up the fact that these 14 year old kids are promoters. HILARIOUS
MANDU post some more,,, this is heinously farcical.
ps: Ned, this could be the next Muscles post….. how exciting!!!
pss: Mandu,,,
if you need to resort to editing my comments to make yourself feel good about the ripping i’m giving you, then by all means.
Power to the people!!! oops i mean POSSE
Posse is so NOW
Alright, last.fm then. Or whatever the kids use these days, I meant social networking in general, hence the hedging. Actually, Facebook was originally designed to be something similar to hotornot. The Internet wasn’t designed for what we use it for, and that’s the kind of amorphic beast that it is; we repurpose its concepts until something emerges that is novel enough to survive. I’m all for throwing this against the wall and seeing if it sticks.
ALEXIO, you argue a good point…
I thought it was quite funny actually Prince – everyone here at the office had a laugh. And it’s true as well, so, the more you know hey?
Like I said, it’s not my company, it’s a mate’s start up… I have no idea if it’s going to work or not. I do hear there’s some really really big Australian industry players involved with the project, so you’re right Alexio, it’s worth keeping an eye on. IF they get some cool bands involved with it.
