New Van She: Strangers

With Strangers we find ourselves one step closer to Van She’s full-length debut, V, which is set to be released at some stage in August on Modular. I couldn’t be more excited about it, especially since Strangers is such a beautiful track. While the first single, Cat and the Eye, left some of us kind of disappointed, its distant and non-committal air disguised rather unconvincingly as fashionable nonchalance that altogether sounded just a little bit flat, Strangers has seen a solid return to form for Van She. Like Sex City and Kelly before it, Strangers is smooth, catchy, and of course brilliantly sexy, and even the tone seems to have matured somewhat. It will be fascinating to see what they do with the whole album when we can finally get our hands on it later this year.

Oh and did I mention the Van She boys are ridiculously good-looking? So good-looking, in fact, that they’ve achieved the tremendous honour of being the first of Hipster Runoff’s, “Most Beautiful Alternative Celebrities.” If it’s a competition though, I don’t like their chances against Klaxons. As much as I would hate to see a bunch of dishevelled Brits out-pretty a bunch of dishevelled Aussies…
