So the world’s sexiest scientologist (pipe down, Tom Cruise, no one thinks it’s you) Beck Hansen, is rumoured to be releasing his new album in the next four to six weeks. And oh my god, four to six weeks is hardly enough time to prepare for my brain to explode with all the anticipatory excitement, so this is all very overwhelming. Apparently the rumour has been generated from MTV speaking to some of Beck’s friends/colleagues, so it could well be bullshit, but it’s still an amazing thought that we could be hearing the Danger Mouse-produced 11th (?) Beck album later this year.

I noticed something mildly amusing in the comments section of MTV’s announcement of the new Beck album – some dude called Jack comparing Beck with Pete Wentz. Wentz being the one with the “brilliance and the hotness.” Seriously. Heated discussion ensues (I do like the girl who calls Wentz, “a whiny adolescent girl.” And no, that Becky wasn’t me.). But the discussion got me thinking, now that Beck and Wentz have been compared, that’s pretty much all the precedent I need to declare five dollars worth of change to be more literary savvy than that mangy, weepy-eyed tabby cat that kept looking at me in the vet’s waiting room last night. Or that tiny origami pony on my desk to be more agile than 5 billion acorns. Jack’s so stoopid.
