Nathan Vice Makes Chunky Music

Nathan Vice

Yes, chunky, that’s definitely the word. Nathan Vice (real name Nate Rodriguez) is a Brooklyn/Puerto Rico based producer whose curious lack of music blog profile seems to be in direct contrast to the massiveness of his beats. And massive they most definitely are. There are distinct echoes of hard-edged Detroit era techno in Vice’s tunes, although the occasional blandness of that genre is mitigated by an electro sensibility and a tight, velocity building drum-synth relationship that seems to hail from nu-skool breaks as much as anywhere else. The result is a sequence of heavy, momentum-laden, growling monsters that demand both your attention and your dance. These aren’t bangers, they’re just solid as. His remix of Misterio’s ‘Star Crash’ is definitely my pick of the bunch, although both of his originals are definitely worth checking out, while the Kylie remix showcases Nate in a slightly more chilled out mood. Slightly.

Misterio – Star Crash (Nathan Vice Remix) [HIGHLY RECOMMENDED]

Nathan Vice – Pardon My French

Nathan Vice – Trunk Full of Junk

Kylie Minogue – Slow (Nathan Vice Remix)

Judging by the posters on his MySpace, Nathan seems to becoming a bit of a fixture on the East Coast and Puerto Rico party scenes, while ‘Star Crash’, ‘Trunk Full of Junk’ and ‘Pardon My French’ are all set to be released on Puerto Rico’s Discos Danser label towards the end of the year. Exciting times. Looking forward to hearing more from Nate in the very near future though – the world needs more chunk and he may be the man to provide it. Now go show him some MySpace love for more tunes, and some stonking party mixes.
