Muscles Is A Dick

Muscles is a dick.

Back in October I was slightly amused about his plans to delete his Myspace account due to the deal that the News Limited owned company had done with the four majors in the US and what he perceived as the Independents getting locked out of the equation. At the last minute he decided not to delete his myspace after a call from their Marketing Manager who told him to check his facts. The funny thing about it was that instead of Muscles actually checking his facts he took the guys word for it and instead watched some pirated tv. Top work Muscles.

It was about this time I started to hear a couple of funny stories about the guy, how he wasn’t getting along with his label (Modular/Universal). One of the baseless rumors involved him inviting all the label staff to his house for a BBQ to make amends where he went around one by one giving everyone a hug and profusely apologising.

The latest dickery that’s emerged is Muscles announcing on his twitter account that he’s “cancelled from Nevereverland 2008″. This seemed to indicate that he’d been given the boot but now Modular have put this blog post up categorically stating that Muscles was…

“…offered a spot at NEVEREVERLAND which still stands and whether he chooses to play or not is his decision. Obviously we would like him to be part of our 10 year celebrations and hope he turns up to perform.”

He’s come back to say that Modular said they couldn’t afford him which would suggest that his asking price was too high… How much is a Muscles live set actually worth?

Either way his latest blog post is pretty much him going head to head with his label, probably not a good idea for this one trick pony.

This all seems to stem from some idea that the world is out to get him. It’s all the ramblings of someone paranoid that the man is trying to get him down. I don’t think it’s the man that he’s got to worry about, I think he’s doing a pretty good job himself.

Update: Muscles has just announced that he is quitting the music business for good and may or may not release his follow up album “Manhood”.

Update 2: “Muscles has sought legal advice and legal proceedings are about to be commenced against Modular Records”

Seems like Nevereverland’s stock just went up. I probably won’t have that window of free time to stand in the drinks line now though. Damns.

bite your tongue, check your facts.

everyone who’s heard my new album wouldn’t be writing garbage like this article.

I 95% agree.. I got pissed coz he didn’t delete his myspace which the announcement of he made me post on my blog – then he said “ask ppl to join my mailing list i will announce my new single on monday” and then on monday there was no such newsletter..

Then he says it’s been pushed to the first of december and it’s already the third…

+ he built way too many websites in addition to the myspace account… I have no clue what he’s trying to do but I’m turned off already.

From the wikipedia entry on Muscles:

*Parting ways with Modular plus Second album*
Muscles cancelled his 2008 UK/Europe tour and festival dates to work on a follow up album in Melbourne. Currently there is a worldwide major label bidding war [citation needed] on who will be releasing the follow-up, after Modular amicably parted ways with Muscles in November 2008.

Too much POV, inaccuracies and speculation in this post.

I’m losing respect for this site.

Samuel: Blogs are all about peoples point of view. If you didn’t want to hear an opinion you could read a straight up news site. With all things music it’s going to be subjective.

Inaccuracies? Not that I’m aware of. I emailed Muscles to get him to clarify where I was off track but his only response was to tell me to “stop wasting his time”.

If you’ve lost respect for the blog over this post you probably don’t want to come back, this is just the start of the things to come.

The album could be great, but that’s nothing to do with it – currently all anyone can see is the Muscles Dramafest. The boy’s looking like a paranoid baby with a beard on, he should just keep his head down until he can at least put out the album, I reckon. Still, any publicity..

Groovenuts: I agree about the negativity to a certain extent. From my point of view (and I know a lot of people agree) the problem with music blogs is how they rave relentlessly about how the track they just got sent is “the best thing i’ve ever heard”. Blog hype is killing music.

To throw one negative post out there every three months (which is probably our average over the last 18 months and 400+ posts) is nothing.

I’ve been watching the fall of Muscles closely the past few weeks. He is really coming across as a real wanker.
a few of the commenters have been trying to get him some constructive criticism and he has just shot his mouth off at them. he even called one guy “a bandwagon-jumping blog wannabe-dj scenester”

Well, would you look at this, the blogs are out in full force. Although I haven’t listened to Muscles personally, I appreciate where you’re coming from with this post. From what I can gather from the situation, the guy needs a reality check. It’s good to see blogs adapting a more realistic perspective with regards to music. No offense to anyone here who runs a blog, but i’ve found myself downloading hundreds of tunes from blogs, all of which have been proclaimed as the second coming of Christ, and I haven’t been all that impressed. Don’t get me wrong, the good outweighs the bad, and of course it is a matter of taste, but I feel some posts are simply made for the sake of posting. That’s not a good sign, not a good sign at all.

Even his own manager was appoligising and saying he could not do anything about it. There is even a facebook hate group about his sorry ass http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=13782212326

“On 23 October Modular Records offered a spot to Muscles on the Nevereverland Tour.

The terms and conditions of the engagement were immediately agreed without any fuss and Muscles started looking forward to, and began preparing for the start of the Tour.

However, just over a month later on 28 November 2008, Modular Records reneged on the arrangements that had been agreed with Muscles.

Muscles reluctantly had no choice but to cancel all of his arrangements for his new Live Show and Tour, immediately advising his fans that his record company had reneged on the arrangements and that he would not be part of the Tour.

Despite having reneged on its agreement with Muscles, Modular Records continued to promote Muscles as being part of the Tour.

Modular clearly lied to the public about Muscles’ appearance.

Modular Records also rolled out a story that, ‘Muscles is welcome on the Tour and that Muscles is not on Tour through his own decision.’

Again, this was a complete lie.

Muscles was looking forward to, excited about and very keen to participate on the Tour, and was gutted by Modular’s decision to prevent him from appearing.

Modular continue to misrepresent to this time that it was Muscles’ decision not to take part in the Tour.

They continue to mislead their fans and supporters.

Muscles has sought legal advice and legal proceedings are about to be commenced against Modular Records for reneging on its contract with Muscles and also for defaming Muscles by telling the world that it was his decision not to perform.”
