Back in hip and happening Perth, me and my friends don’t so much look forward to Christmas as we look forward to Breakfest Eve. Coming as it does the day before Breakfest, Christmas can often seem like a comfortable redundancy. One has their good cheer, one has their turkey, but one knows that 24 hours later one is going to be on their way to the Belvoir Amphitheatre (quite possibly the best open-air venue in the world) for an afternoon and evening of cranking breakbeat at Breakfest (quite possibly the best open-air event in the world). It is also, invariably, the hottest day of the year, clocking in today at an absolutely scorching 41 degrees. C + C Music Factory’s ever famous lyric “I’m gonna make you sweat ’til you bleed/Is that dope enough? Indeed” has never seemed so apt. Nonetheless, before extenuating circumstances kicked in, this was going to be my third year running of ostensibly returning to Perth for the sake of Christmas, but deep down knowing I was in it for the breaks. Don’t tell my mother.
So in honour of the holy miracle of Breakfest, I’m throwing down a couple of tunes put out by the headliners today, the Plump DJs and the Stanton Warriors. System Addict is one of the best breaks tunes I’ve heard in years, grinding but melodic, with a nice stomping drum line that ensures it wouldn’t be out of place in most electro throw downs. And the Stanton’s remix of Goose is a nice quirky funk number with the Stanton’s distinctive hanging break propelling it forward. Neither of them do justice to how awesome Breakfest is. If you do at any point, for some reason, feel the compulsive need to travel to Perth, do make sure it coincides with Boxing Day. You shant be disappointed.

Hi whilst we appreciate that you are running a cool site you are currently enabling our music to be downloaded for free, as a small independent label free downloads are crippling our business and making it impossible for us to release our artists music. It would be extremely appreciated if you could remove the track ‘Plump DJs - System Addict’ The artists, and indeed the label, are losing valuable revenue which is needed to pay for production and marketing and in turn keeping us putting out cool underground music that we believe in.
