Yes, these tracks have already been everywhere, but they are some of the best I’ve heard in a good while, so pipe down. The decidedly pretty Welsh-born London-based Marina Diamond released her debut single, Obsessions, just last week on Neon Gold, its off-kilter pop not unlike that which saw label-mates, Passion Pit, so enthusiastically received. Comparisons to Kate Bush, Kate Nash and Regina Spektor have been zealously flung about by the blogs, as we are wont to do, but Diamond’s skill as a songwriter and talent as a vocalist render them largely unnecessary.
The double A-side 7” features Obsessions and Mowgli’s Road, and you can pick a copy up at the Neon Gold shop or Pure Groove. In the meantime, check out the at-times-Fan-Death-esque Aspirins For My Children remix of Obsession (the Gold Panda and Pink Stallone ones are at Discodust if you haven’t already got them) and enjoy the clip below.

I’m thinking more of a shy Amanda Palmer, which is probably an oxymoron when I think about it.
Kate Nash I can see a bit of, except the voice isn’t as good.
And Regina Spektor? What?
As in: What drugs did whoever wrote that take?
LOVE HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been scouring the web looking for more. When will she release a full length? When will she be available on itunes? It took me forever to just find a downloadable mp3 of Obsessions, trust me, it ain’t easy
