M83

Which was probably obvious enough after the previous post. But the new M83 (a.k.a Anthony Gonzalez) album ‘Saturdays = Youth’ has just been released, and it’s fucking gorgeous. By far Gonzalez’s most accessible LP to date, ‘Saturdays’ feels like the logical end point to this stream of 80s revivalism. Producers Ewan ‘The Rapture’ Pearson and Ken ‘Sigur Ros’ Thomas have taken the wintry analogue synthscapes of Gonzalez’s previous two albums and infused them with a warmth and sentiment more befitting Tears for Fears than My Bloody Valentine. The sound is still unmistakably M83, but it’s been filtered through the lens of 80s teen angst (hey, that’s the name of a song by M83… Oh. My. God.)

‘Kim & Jessie’ is the anthem to every prom you never went to. Because you were in Australia. And probably about 8 when the 80s ended. But if you want to feel nostalgic for an experience you never had, then this may be for you.

On a dancier bent, here’s the Yuksek remix of new single ‘Graveyard Girl’. Seriously, everything this man touches is gold (anyone else absolutely losing their shit over his remix of Ghostface Killah? If not, you should be…)

And to back up his recent support on their national tour, here’s M83 remixing the Midnight Juggernauts. As good as it sounds.

To finish it up with something different, here’s the opening clip from the skating video ‘Fully Flared’, ably directed by Spike Jonze and featuring M83′s ‘Lower Your Eyelids to Die With The Sun’. Fucking amazing.

EDIT: WordPress still struggling with the embed, so while we sort it out, you can check the video here
UPDATE: Ned 1, WP 0.

All in all, the album is awesome, the single is awesome, the remix is awesome, and that video is awesome. You should buy any/all of them immediately. The end.
