Well, well, well, hasn’t young Nottingham native, Lawrence Matthew Blake, come a long way since we last visited him. As Lillica Libertine, the favourite son of Britain’s underground electro scene, he’s progressed from the relative unknown he was last year, to joining the ranks of similarly flourishing artists such as Danger and The Bloody Beetroots by announcing an upcoming tour all the way down here. Oh yes, the boy is now an internationally-touring DJ/producer. Not bad for a plucky twenty year-old. So far he’s only released Sydney dates: 13th September at Trashbags (YU) and 20th September at the Roxy, but I’m assuming he’ll make it at least as far as Melbourne, if not elsewhere. So keep those eyes peeled. Electro doesn’t get dirtier than this. I for one am already slightly frightened at the thought of how hard the guy next to me at Trashbags will be dancing.
Moving along, and he’s just remixed the endearingly distinct Late of the Pier’s Bathroom Gurgle and I really really love what he’s done with it. It’s a surprising treatment, and very well done. I can’t wait to see what 2008 has in store for Mr Libertine.
