Dude, get off my wavelength! So I’ve been looking for an excuse to post these remixes for a while now, and it was getting to the point where I was about to consider arranging a hit on the bass player or something just to make them topical, when this happy twist of fate occurred and all of a sudden my post is relevent.
I’ve always loved Space and the Woods by Late of the Pier (does anyone else have an uncontrollable urge to add another ‘f’ in there? Am I risking my street cred by admitting I don’t know what their band name means? Is it supposed to mean anything? Do I even have street cred..?). It’s such a quirky, unusual track and it’s been fun to see what a handful of artists have done with it. So… We’ve got the slightly creepy Liars-esque affair by the kids from short-lived teenage band, Jack and the Free Trees; the gloriously trashy exercise in distortion from South Central; the bleep-tastic Barringtone (ex-Clor) adventure; something this kid called Arne Blackman made on his laptop; and my personal favourite, the first official remix from the latest UK band to score the dubious status of The-Next-Big-Thing-No-Really-We’re-Serious-This-Time-We-Totally-Mean-It-They’ll-Be-HUGE….The Neon Plastix. Fortunately those guys fully deserve all the hype they’ve been getting at the moment.
More?? Ok. Bolt Action Five and Filthy Few and C90’s, the latter of which I would say something about, but I think Disco Nap pretty much have that covered:
“…something MSTRKRFT would do, only it doesn’t bore us to tears and make us want to shoot up every Korg in sight with an AK-47.”
Ha. (Oh but I still love you, MSTRKRFT.)
And ok, I will say something about it. It’s rad, but the intro is overlong. Horrifyingly overlong.

P.S. Can someone find me the Sebastien C remix that is supposedly floating around? No? Ok… Sudo find it for me! (Street cred what?!)

OK I have had a quick listen to them all and my favourites so far are the C90’s remix and the Filthy Few remix.
But I think I am going to have to have another listen to make sure, then delete the rest!
I knew that there were remixes but this is just ridiculous. which one is your favourite bec and i’ll give it a shot? I don’t normally like remixes so your choice had better be brilliant. no pressure tho.
Ummm Neon Plastix for sure. And Bolt Action Five if you’re feeling a bit docile. You should definitely check both of those out.
And Nek - be careful how many you listen to, or you’ll end up like me with massive Space and the Woods fatigue.
Bec, that is the problem with these kinds of lists.
On the plus side when we both get on Spicks N Specks we will win that game where they play you 1 second of the song. So long as it is Justice D.A.N.C.E., Death From Above or Space and the Woods
My fav is Bolt Action Five - but you’ve missed out the surreal Primary1 remix which you can still hear at myspace.com/lateofthepierremixes, and the gloriously retro Smoking the Fool remix - myspace.com/smokingthefool - listen out for those violins …
Yeah, right on! Lift you game Bec!

Smiley faces are so ‘05, Nek. JEEZ.
Thanks for the tip, Mark! I think I might have to wait a while before I can give them a listen though. I think this track will be stuck in my head for a least a year or so after writing this post. Damn.
Woah, I can’t believe that that turned into an emoticon.
Craig, can you turn that shit off?
And damn you Mark for making me listen to 2 more versions of this track
c90’s is erol’s remix of franz ferdinand redux. its still awesome though. neon plastix is my indie band of the year.
