Kings of Leon – Only By the Night

Good lord, I adore this track. Kings of Leon are gearing up to release their fourth album, Only By the Night on the 23rd September. This album pleasantly surprised me by being really quite gorgeous, as I wasn’t so much into the lead single, Sex on Fire, which to be honest felt a little dated. That in itself is a fairly ironic criticism I know, as a lot of the Kings of Leon appeal springs from that classic, smokey-garage alt-rock sound, but I just wasn’t feeling it, it was alarmingly Foo Fighters-esque. I’m sure Only By the Night will cop it’s fair share of flack over its stadium-rock tendencies, (for some reason the lazy comparison to U2 seems to be continually bandied about) but hell, if they insist on going in that direction, and tracks like Use Somebody are the result, I won’t complain too much.

Only By the Night will be released on Columbia Records, and you can pick it up from the online store at their Kings of Leon site here on the 23rd.

Ive loved the Kings ever since I heard Cali Waiting four years or so ago and I have to say I miss the Kings of old. While they have grown as musicians they lost the raw edge that so many lose after their second album.(the Strokes)Still good, as is BOTT. just makes me wonder what they could be

Rick, I agree. I kind of treat old Kings of Leon and new Kings of Leon as different creatures now, because they seem to have changed so much, but they haven’t lost any of their great skill.

I agree, they keep getting better as musicians. Its not bad music either. Manhatan is a beautiful song. If they were going to mellow out I wish theyd do more songs like trani, dusty, and rememo. In my opinion trani is their best song to date (Happy Alone 2nd)

They need to re-grow their beards and stop trying to act like the killers.

BUY THIS ALBUM if you like it, instead of just ripping it straight off.
