Ahhh HEALTH. The band that is super-frustrating to find any info on because they just had to choose an exceptionally common word as their band name. Good one, guys. And no, the capitals don’t help. That said, it’s been so great to see the level of excitement HEALTH has been generating in the lead up to the release of their self-titled album this Tuesday on Lovepump United. It’s like everyone had finally started to grow tired of the same old thing, and then HEALTH came out of nowhere with their creepy, anxious, tribal sound and somehow made noise rock the Next Big Thing. Want your band to have the kind of up-to-the-minute fresh sound of HEALTH, Channels 3×4, Liars, Foals, and Stop, Die, Resuscitate? Start chanting, people! And don’t stop there, get your monotone on, make sure the majority of the members of your band can play percussion, and for god’s sake, acquire yourself a Zoothorn, ok? And the more peculiar and inconsistent your sound, the better. I just love how they manage to simultaneously sound primal yet futuristic. Like, I bet robotic dinosaurs from the year 3050 would go nuts for HEALTH. And cyborg Druids. They’d be right into it.
The beauty and uniqueness of HEALTH’s music lies in the boys’ ability to detach themselves from the end product, thus creating what main vocalist, Jake Duzik, calls a ‘depersonalized,’ sound, which makes it oh so mouldable and interpretive. So, remixes anyone?
