Foals Remixed by Loud Pipes

horseballs

I honestly don’t know what’s going on in this picture. I mean, I thought I got it: you put “let me show you my,” and “horseballs,” into a sentence and present it to a certain demographic, and you’ll have guaranteed laughs, or at the very least a silent appreciation of your superior homograph-dependent comedic skills. But who do Horseballs think their target market is? I’m not pretending to know much about these novelty rubber balls for bored, understimulated horses, but I’m going to take a stab and say comfortably-wealthy countryfolk and the twelve-year-old daughters of diplomats who only see their dad twice a year but still have a better childhood than you did because they got a freaking pony. Neither of which seem like the type to be particularly interested in smutty, obvious humour. So that’s Horseballs: 0, common sense: 0. We all lose. And then there’s the completely brain-asploding choice of t-shirt models. Could they be any more wholesome?! Wait, are Horseballs trying to mess with our heads? Oh, I see. Horseballs: 1, the rest of us: 0. Well played, Horseballs, well played.

So Foals. They’ve bounded onto the ‘remix competition’ bandwagon to join the likes of Yelle, Heartsrevolution, and Simian-way-back-when, as they prepare to release their debut album in North America. In association with Last.Fm, they’ve offered up the constituents of their track, Electric Bloom, to the public in the hope that someone will produce something awesome enough to appear in their digital release bundle. Yes, yes, that old chestnut. Already a couple have surfaced, one from the lovely Loud Pipes, who seems to have made it slightly more dark and anxious-sounding, and some other one that I wasn’t too impressed with, but you can pick it up at Penetration Club if you really want. Download the remix parts here, and godspeed/dexterity to each of you. The competition closes on the 25th of May.

[edit: Jack from Penetration Club has set up a page for all the remixes as they come through. There are quite a few already. Download them here.]
