Well if you happen to have the brand-new Bordeaux-based label, Boxon Records, as one of your Myspace friends, you’ll already know that they released their first ever EP, the Boxon001/Drama Queen EP, on Monday, because they have been bulletining the CHRIST out of it for the past few weeks. And if you’ve also befriended Tom Deluxx and/or Julien Cat and/or Julien Milan, you would’ve been getting literally (yes, literally) billions of those bulletins. But I guess it’s entirely warranted because it really does look like an awesome bit of work. This amazing new French label was just established this year by Julien Minet, aka Julien Cat, and already has the incredible Tom Deluxx and Julien Milan under its wings, which no doubt means that this label can only get massive from here on in. The EP features Deluxx’s hard-as-nails super-track, Drama Queen, and Julien Minet’s remix of it; Julien Milan’s Pony Plage; and Deluxx’s Mushion Heroe. Check them out at the Boxon Records Myspace page and tell me they aren’t solid tracks. They’ve been play-listed by LA Riots, Goose (Boxon calls them Gooze. How terribly French), Crystal Castles, The Bloody Beetroots, Toxic Avenger, Aaron San, and Philipe de Boyar, so if that’s not enough of an endorsement, I don’t know what is. Pick up the vinyl here.
And speaking of Tom Deluxx, he’s been having a wonderful time of late, playing with French heavy-weights Justice, SebastiAn, and Busy P; enjoying the blogged-like-crazy success of his recent Shoes - Knock Out remix; and starting up the exciting duo, Just A Band, with Milkpack’s adorable StellA, just a few months ago (see Discodust for details). I am convinced there is something in the Bordeaux water. Once again, I wish I were French.

[...] I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I really really want to live in Bordeaux. Not only is it reportedly one of the wilder parts of France, but it is home to a clique of exceptionally talented electronic artists who are quietly producing some of the best French electro around. One of my (and the Ed Banger crew’s) favourite Bordeaux artists, Tom Deluxx (no, not Tim Deluxe eww), has been particularly productive of late, playing sets with Vicarious Bliss and Danger, releasing the debut EP for Just A Band (his collaboration with Milkpack’s Stella) a couple of weeks ago on vinyl, and releasing his debut solo EP, Curse Words on Boxon Records today. Run by producer/DJ, Julien Minet, Boxon Records really is one of the best kept secrets of the French electro scene, Deluxx’s EP being just the second release for the relatively small and new label.
