Cracking new tune from versatile art-and-about Sydney siders Beaufort. They’ve actually just finished a movie(!) called Tiger, which looks like a low-fi version of Lost In Translation but with less old man on hot teen action. I think it looks quite sweet:

This Tokyo Getaway release from Melbourne’s Polygon Palace has been doing the rounds for a few months. It’s a bit of fun, Grafton Primary style electro with slightly less posturing. Bunch of gigs coming up in Melbourne too, check them out.

I noticed in the remix pack a tune by someone calling themselves Tornado Wallace. Turns out he is none other than Lewie Day, one of Melbourne’s more enigmatic house producers. He pops up here and there, plays everywhere from cheesy Sunday house clubs to full on doofs, sometimes makes bleepy low-slung house, other times makes deep electro, other times makes bang0rz and now makes silky, down-tempo french-touch disco. Cool guy. I wonder if he’d be my friend if I lived in Melbourne still.

And an oldy… I’m struggling to find my hi-res copy of it, but this was the CHOICEST Melbourne grown banger of 06/07. Reminds me of Louis Epstein jeans and my housemate’s psycho ex-girlfriend who used to walk around in a big t-shirt with no undies on. Simple times.

Another of the good ship NME’s brands makes a splash in Australia for the end of summer. Featuring what promises to be an ‘iconic’ DJ set from a guy who was in The Smiths but wasn’t Morrissey. But with some great bands in support, I can see this being a pretty righteous party.

Sock this MpFree in your iPod. Philly Jays remixed by local Girl Talk cover band – The Yacht Club DJ’s. It’s not bad though, bit of a bleepy throw back affair on top of a popular indy jam du jour.

More stuff from Sydney lads AEONS. They’ve just completed an official remix of Deep Sea Arcade’s endlessly catchy ‘Lonely In Your Arms’. Bouncy Hammond organs juxtaposed with your traditional Sydney-style analogue bass effusions. Pretty different to the original, suffice to say.

They also did this dutty lil’ bootleg of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Between The Sheets’ (yeah, i know, her again ay?) for their DJ sets. They’ve since taken the track out of their boot, wrote it out in 1’s and 0’s on a piece of paper, scanned it into their Dell workstation PC and pushed the ‘music’ button in Windows, which has turned what was once a bootleg into the sweet, glistening 320kb mp3 you see right here.

(I’ve been looking for an excuse to use that picture.)

If you like your music unashamedly dramatic, you have something in common with UK’s Screendeath. His remix of Andy Caldwell’s autotune-heavy Scream is a sprawling masterpiece of piano-driven house featuring an impressive intro that teams pulse-racing piano loops and heartbreaking orchestral effects. The vocals kick in with surges of spacey synths to carry the whole thing through to the gently heaving remainder. It’s slightly anxious, but very cool.

And if you missed it earlier, here’s Hidden Cat’s cover of Shooting Stars. Stripping out the vocals and slowing the pace down to a self-satisfied dawdle, the track loses none of its poppy sweetness but has reinvented it enough so those of you who are sick of the original can enjoy it without being reminded of the season premier of Australian Idol (and now apparently McDonalds).

Miike Snow’s latest piano driven pop-romp, Sylvia, has been given a touch up by Sinden.

Sinden’s remixes have flown under the radar a bit recently, as young bedroom upstarts force their way through the ranks, grabbing the focus from the big guns of ‘08. This gets back to Sinden’s world bass sound, sketchy drum rhythms and percussion stabs just roll and roll over Miike Snow’s melancholic synth melodies. Tubby bass wobbles fill out the breaks. Vintage Sinden, euphoric-vocal-world-wobble-house you could call it if you’re genre minded and/or retarded.

Sinden’s playing a special set at the salubrious confines of GoodGod Small Club on Friday 15th (tomorrow) in Sydney. It’ll be up close and personal, close enough to tilt his hat in funny directions and still have time to run away before he slaps you.

Apparently (via the promoters) this gig is a ‘personal request from Sinden to play something different to a festival set, so he can drop his real favourite records in the real old school Sinden way!’. It’s not even listed on his MySpace, so expect something pretty mega (like tunes from the Mega EP omfg lol).

Some local DJ bro sent us this link to a new mixtape by another young DJ bro named Gustav.

It’s a mixtape and the tracklist isn’t brand spanking new with ‘leet bang0rz, but its very tight. Mixes go back and forth, tracks referring to each other (in key!) during transitions. Kinda like a thinking man’s Yacht Club DJ’s mix. Perfect backing track for al-fresco house parties or coke-ridden swinger’s parties.

Not to be confused with the French Velo or American Velo or Mary Velo (who used to mix blog bang0rz and now remixes for Audion.. go figure) for that matter, presenting London’s own contribution to the international Velo franchise of tunesmiths.

These young brits are still definitely at the bedroom stage in terms of production, but beneath the rough strata is determined, friendly, synth-driven pop. The hooks are big, so big that the plasterboard ceiling they’re mounted in needs a bit of reinforcement.

Velo are working on more originals and have landed a few sneaky remixes for the likes of Ellie Goulding and Penguin Prison which you an hear on their MySpace.

For the first time ever, 2ManyDjs are teaming up with LCD Soundsystem (James and Pat) for a three hour slam-fest, live on triple j radio. It kicks off from 10:00pm this Friday 8th on your wireless or streaming online.

The four guys will be going back to back, swapping records and running commentary on their selections throughout. Could be an absolute mess or it could also be the greatest radio show ever made ever.

I’m predicting this powerful joining of electronic deities will summon a deadly spacediscoanomaly over Ultimo towers that will descend upon central Sydney, crushing our brittle human frames like stale Jatz. It’s been nice knowing you.
