Recently I’ve been noticing the presence of a new strain of saturated, textured and lovely electronica on the scene; a sequence of increasingly sophisticated synth-laden riffs on the interplay between indie and electronic music. While this kind of borderline rock/electronic music is in no way a novel phenomenon (certainly Krautrock were arguably doing it 30 odd years ago), what I’ve been noticing recently is that there are an increasingly large number of artists who appear to be taking dance music as their platform into live instrumentation rather than vice versa.

It’s a kinda post-Boards of Canada, post-Warp in the 90s world, where the ‘folktronica’ so often attributed to Rounds-era Four Tet has morphed and developed into its own jangling, swarming brand of indie-infused instrumental electronic music. School of Seven Bells were big last year, and I reckon Deastro is going to be pretty huge this year, but there’s also a few dudes that are coming through on a housier tip that are very much worthy of your attention too. The ex-Hail Social Memory Cassette/Weird Tapes/Memory Tapes project continues to impress, Warp signing Bibio just dropped the stunning Ambivalence Avenue album, and there’s been a sequence of killer blog-friendly remixes coming out from today’s case study Gold Panda.

And I don’t really know all that much about him, truth be told. From what I can tell, he’s from London, he has a keen eye for website design, he may or may not be a member of Infinite Livez and he’s been putting out remixes that are thick and interesting and beaty and occasionally beautiful. Oh, and his Twitter bio reads: Tea drinker, Music maker, Depression sufferer, Erection getter, Self loather, Panda. Wicked.

So, fuck the further info, let the music speak for him instead. Today we have for your perusal his recent reworkings of Marina and the Diamonds, Telepathe and Zero 7, a cross-section of artists that serves as a rather tidy reference point for his music. Not that I want to boil his tracks down to quite so simple a picture, but, I dunno, just have a listen. Maybe then you’ll see what I’ve been rambling towards.

Who is Nile Delta?

It is an Australian producer who made headlines in the music world with a dance track that made kids pick up chairs and throw them at windows, (yes i was present). The last few months i would often finish a mouthful of Weetbix and wonder what ever happened to this guy? surely he hasn’t stopped doing what he doooooooooooooo? Well it looks like my questions have been answered. Joel Belgium of Riot In Belgium and Comets, has just remixed Lost Valentino’s, Thief. My o My hasn’t it just brought some sunshine into my life. He once again hit’s us with a wonderfully thought out and progressed track, it is sunkist soaked and groves like you wouldn’t believe, driving just at the right time. The Lost Valentino’s Thief  is due to be released on September 4th in an album titled, Cities of Gold.

The Xtatic Truth EP has landed, featuring a veritable grab bag of chopped up cockney inspired electro-fusion. I’m not a huge fan of the original, and the Xtra Loud remix pretty much ruined the flow of the latest Kitsune Maison comp for me. Can’t play it in the office because of that one.

But, thanks to the big slice himself, L-Vis 1990 of United Groove fame, we’ve got this swirly-pounder on our hands.

Not that I’ve ever been or intend on going to said night but that’s what the email said, and in my experience the only thing more trustworthy than an email is a man in an animal costume.

Her EP dropped recently, it’s called ‘The Crown Jewels’ and features the single ‘I Am Not A Robot’ which is a good thing to know and also a good song.

Electrorash favourite, Diamond Cut, has very kindly taken time out of his crazy schedule to send us his latest remix, that of British pop duo, Booty Luv’s new single, “Say It.” Dude has totally straightened out the rather textbook original with his driving bassline and those eternally lovely synths that I’ll probably never grow weary of, effortlessly turning the whole thing into dancefloor-ready perfection.

He’s also got a bunch more projects to be released in the near future, including that elusive new Cobra Dukes album he’s been producing and, amongst others, a Cinnamon Chasers remix, which I’m actually really excited about because it kind of seems like an ideal match. I think one of the best things about the rapid ascendance of this current crop of electro-pop songstresses (see Boots, Little, Goulding, Ellie, The Diamonds, Marina and) is that they are, to a person, proving to be ripe, varied and exciting remix subjects. And we’re not talking just the straight up space disco/electro-house rewrites either; many of the tracks emerging of late are kinetic, heavy and bass-filled. Some of them are pretty much unrecognisable. Most of them are surprisingly good.

Our focus today is one of the current front-runners in the lady synth-pop stakes, Britain’s ever-lovely La Roux. Although this should come with a caveat - La Roux is actually a duo featuring singer Elly Jackson and producer type Ben Langmaid. But hey, Elly is the only one you ever see and hear about, so lady synth-pop it is. Onwards!

After veering dangerously close to the #1 spot in Britain with her first single ‘In For The Kill’ (featuring remixes by Skream and Lifelike), La Roux is returning on June 22 with the probably bulletproof single, ‘Bulletproof’. Which aims to repeat the half synth/half bass remix package of ‘In For The Kill’ by pairing the track with remixes by Zinc and Tepr. Although, to be fair, Tepr’s offering is hardly the usual tepid electro fare. Instead we get long, gorgeously rendered trance revival vocal stretches, punctuated by periods of jacking post-fidget. Yeah, that’s right, I said post-fidget. Fidget is dead. It’s over. Let it go….

Really very good.

La Roux - Bulletproof (Tepr Remix)

Next up is this straight-up but nonetheless caning dubstep remix of Bulletproof by the always impressive Foamo. And while this track is not featured officially on the single, and from all reports was a fairly casual effort from the man, I would suggest that, irrespective, it may well be better than the Zinc track they actually went with. A brilliant pairing of angelic vocals and devastating bass.
