Aptly described by Derek Neon Gold as a combination of Vampire Weekend, The Postal Service and R. Kelly, with references to Japan both lyrical and aesthetic, Vampire Weekend keyboardist, Rostam Batmanglij, has teamed up with Ra Ra Riot’s Wes Miles, to form a new side-project, Discovery. Set to take 2009 by storm, this lively duo, with the kind of iron grip on a gorgeous melody that you could reasonably expect given their collective backgrounds, will be releasing a self-titled LP later this year. And judging by the levels of anticipation for FrankMusik and Passion Pit’s upcoming full-lengths, bubbly synth-pop is in, so I have a feeling this will be enormous.
