Yes. It’s a Delorean. And it’s being put back into production this year. That’s right, you, yes you, could be the proud owner of a brand new version of 80s movie history for the paltry sum of $56 000. What better way of showing your absolute dedication to everything retro/futro/electro than by purchasing a wildly over-priced metal slab of childhood nostalgia. With wheels. It would be pretty cool…
But more to the point (and on a vastly more affordable scale) are Spanish four-piece dance-rockers Delorean, whose last album should come pre-installed in all new Deloreans. My god, if you say the word Delorean enough it really loses all meaning. Delorean. Weird. But yes, Delorean are pretty fucking cool. It seems as if they’ve been kicking around for a while, but they only hovered (drove?) onto my radar last year with their fourth and most recent album album, ‘Transatlantic KK’.
The comparison with the car Delorean isn’t entirely coincidental; the music really does sound like it’s been cooked up for the purpose of cruising down the chronological highway. Or the real one. I always find myself speeding when I put it on while driving. Safety first. As a representative sample, ‘Apocalypse Ghetto Blast’ is liquid cool: funk guitar intersecting with retro synth washes and some cranking MCing. Perfect for time travel adventures, and trips to the local deli. Buy the whole thing from their label store or else grab it from iTunes. You shant be disappointed.
Delorean – Apocalypse Ghetto Blast [MediaFire]
Delorean have a busy month planned, with a suite of US/EU dates up on their MySpace, including a place at the coveted eMusic Showcase at SXSW in Austin on March 13. Much respect. Also, look out for their soon to be released remix of The Teenagers’ new single ‘Love No’, which is due on XL Recordings on the 10th of March.
And just so we aren’t entirely devoid of dancefloor delights (sometimes when I alliterate, I hate myself), here’s a remix of album highlight ‘As Time Breaks Off’ by Delorean’s Portuguese mates, and Electrorash faves (go download the ‘Air Guitar’ track in that post – it’s off the charts good), The Requesters. It’s from the ‘As Time Breaks Off’ EP, which can be picked up here or, again, from iTunes. The tune itself is 8 minutes of steadily building synth madness, with lots of uplifting melodies and stomping breakdowns. Thoroughly enjoyable.

The Requesters have also sent through a couple of their other tunes, and although I can’t post them yet, I gotta say, this is a group with some serious talent. Lush, diverse grinding electro with a pseudo-trance edge. Hope to be hearing/posting more from them soon.
