I went to see Daft Punk in Melbourne last night and it was almost a religious experience. When the pyramid was revealed and I saw them on stage it was like we were getting a visit from these robots from out of space who had travelled across the galaxy to play this show just for us. Only these robots were from France
Bec posted a bootleg of their Mexico show a little while ago and I avoided listening to it and I am glad I did. The show is highly sequenced but that isn’t a bad thing. There are obviously still some live elements going on but the way they are able to integrate the lighting into the show makes this a live show.
Cut Copy were amazing, performing more tracks off of their upcoming album. One track in particular sounded amazing on that massive sound system and in my opinion should be the next single. Anyone get a set list?
The Presets were also great. New stuff is fantastic and My People rocked out particularly hard, it is a creeper. Bring on the album!
Pitchfork recently did a great interview with Thomas Bangaltar of Daft Punk which you can check out here. In the article he mentions the last 5 tracks (they call them records) that he put on to dance. Here they are! enjoy.
Kavinsky: “Testarossa Autodrive”
Hüsker Dü: “New Day Rising”
Kanye West: “Flashing Lights”
Ratatat: “Lex”
Sebastien Tellier: “Sexual Sportswear (SebastiAn remix)“
I got some pretty great video footage as well which I will put up in the next couple of days with some more Daft Punk treats. Tell your friends!

I am seeing them in Sydney next week and I cannot wait!!! a believe the word epic is appropriate in this case
Nice one.
I went on Thursday night — it was epic. Foolishly, perhaps, I’ve listened to several Daft Punk bootlegs so I was pretty much expecting a verbatim repeat of their Coachella performance. But it sounded subtely different. Some of the transitions were tweaked, samples changed, and of course, on the massive sound system, it sounded much better. The encore track is completely new, or has never been bootlegged. It was awesome.
Where’d you sit? I got a ticket not realising it was stalls (the $140 price tag should have twigged me) and was super psyched to be in the 10th from the front row.
Epic is a term that is overused a lot but you have both used it appropriately.
I wish I could have got down into the stall section but bought a general admin ticket thinking that this would be up the front I was stage right.
That sound system was intense. At several points the whole thing gave me goose bumps
I headed across to the Friday show in Melbourne and had the time of my life - really - I don’t know that I’ve ever been as happy as I was that night
Can’t wait for next weekend in Sydney…WOOO!
oh jesus im getting goosbumps just reading these coments as they are triggering memories from that night… i went to the thursday show in melbourne (first australian show!) and was up at the front of the non-stalls section.. it was still amazing that far back—kavinsky and sebastian were also really good and got the crowd to the right point before the robots came… ive also been listening to coachella basically on a loop for the last few months but it still seemed new to me– how good was music sounds better with you for the encore? out
I was getting goose bumps all through the show.
Have you seen Electroma? When they played Human After All I even had slightly moist eyes. Maybe I have taken it too far…
I went to the Thursday Melbourne show too. Flew over from Auckland to see it. Was cool seeing Pedro Winter eating star bursts.
The Daft at paris in June was for me and for many others the best concert of the year…good tunes here…
Perth was epic. No category tix, just GA, was very good. Easy to get up the front too. I was Daft Baptised and is now my religion. How are we ever going to look at a live dance music gig the same? Also how good was the new version of Future by Cut Copy, very good. I know the track you were talking about Nek, bring that sht on. Though I do love So Haunted.
A friend of mine VJed the Perth after party at the Bakery. His words: “a hard act to follow”
[...] style, very cool and chilled out. It reminds me of the tracks Justice chose as their all time Top 5 songs to get them [...]
