So after many months of hype and three singles later Cut Copy finally dropped their second album on Saturday. I was lucky enough to snag an early copy on Thursday night and have been listening to it constantly since then. And it’s beautiful.

It’s been 4 years since their debut album, Bright Like Neon Love, and some were starting to wonder whether they could come back with a solid follow up album at all. Personally I was curious to see how the album developed as a collaboration between the three members as opposed to BLNL’s singular vision from front man Dan Whitford. And then their was DFA producer Tim Goldsworthy.

This is one of those albums that you really have to have in your collection and accordingly they have gone all out on the packaging with a mini poster and a colour overlay of the album art.

It isn’t easy choosing favourite songs off of the album because they are all great and well produced but “Out On The Ice” and “Far Away” both really grabbed me. The only track I’m not really feeling is the country-esque “Strangers In The Wind” and I will give that a couple more listens before I seal the lid shut.

You can grab the album from jbhifionline.com.au, through the Modular website or just stream it from their myspace. Whatever you do support this talented three piece from Melbourne with the hope that they will continue to make more synth infused pop goodness.

Enjoy it.

A contender for album of the year so far! A top band, riding the crest!

Love it! …and hearts on fire? unbelievable! x

I had to wait until Saturday to get it … but it was well worth it. These were literally flying off the shelves at JB. Definitely a record to please old fans and get a whole bunch of new ones.

And I dug ‘Strangers in the Wind’. Does that mean I’m a hick?

literally flying off the shelves? Call ghostbusters.

Surprised you liked that track though. I mean I enjoyed the entire album start to finish but that one kind of stuck out for me.

Now I am looking forward to getting home and putting it on again…

“strangers in the wind” rules and is amongst my fav tracks on there (also, when i hear it i def think “fleetwood mac” before i think “country” as it is essentially a heavy dose of mac attack). “nobody lost, nobody found” is def my fav though. thriller.

also: “BLNL’s singular vision from front man Tim Hoey”
    wrongtown yo. dan whitford.

oh shit did I write that?

In my mind I was actually thinking about how Tims input on the new record would effect it as opposed to Dan’s “singular vision”. How did he lose his eye anyway?

furthermore, “strangers in the wind” is one of the few (possibly the only, but i need to listen in more detail)tracks on this album to feature the hauntingly beatiful, icy timbres of the roland juno-106. a synth which, in a way, defined the previous album and is sorely missed on this one (by me).

Why no mp3′s? I know we’re all gonna go buy this, but is this an ethical thing, like “I like this band too much to share their mp3s”? It sets a wierd precedent for a music blog.

    Plus I want mp3s.

    Hey Tomas,

The reason was twofold: 1 I think this album is one to buy and listen to in full as they intended and 2 I wasnt about to post anything that every other blog already has out there. Plus you can stream it off of their myspace ;)

    I really want to say,

Your FACE sets a weird precedent… for HUMAN!

But I’m not sure who to direct it to.

I’m also one of the many who can’t stop playing this album, which is nice, because I was only mildly interested in the first one. I’m glad all the hype was warrented.

the album is sounding pretty sweet, especially as i’ve never been a hige fan up til this point. and gotta say i have a reasonable amount of time for strangers in the wind too. although dan sounds increasingly like he’s about to merge as one with bernard sumner from new order. not that that’s a bad thing.

also really digging on m83′s newbie at the moment. so very, very 80s movie soundtrack. but done by m83. and therefore awesome.
