So remixing has become big business and getting a big name artist to remix your tracks will definitely increase your exposure as an artist and possibly help record sales (if not downloads).
There are even commercial remix artists who will do a pretty good version for a fee.
I was thinking about this in relation to Daft Punk and some of the work that they have done for bigger known commercial artists and thought how there is a good way to do this (as shown by Justice) and a rubbish way (like Daft Punk). I think it shows the approach of the artist to music in general where Justice started out as remix dudes and Daft Punk have been more insular in their music, preferring to let people mess around with their music instead of the other way around.
Here are the rubbish ones, in my opinion anyway, starting with the appalling Daft Punk ‘remix’ of Franz Ferdinands massive hit “Take Me Out”. What’s that? You’ve never heard it before? No wonder, it truly is crap but worth the downloading for gags.
I think that Van She Tech’s remix of Feist’s “1234″ also falls into this shit category. That said, when they first did their remix of “Ice Cream” NYPC hated it. So much so that they tried to stall the release of it. Word.
And these two both blew my socks when they came out, love them or hate them. Particuarly Justice’s work on the Fallen – genius.
