Remember Yo Majesty’s Club Action? Remember how for a while there in early 2007 you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing the Bag Raiders’ Enya-laden edit of the track played at least twice per evening? Remember how nary a week went by without another remix of the track dropping all over the blogs? Yeah? You remember that? Good, because the track has been released by Domino today. Say what?
In what has to be one of the most curiously delayed releases of all time, Club Action is getting its first official release today, a good solid 18 months after the track really racked up momentum in early 2007. Of course, it’s probably been timed to coincide with the release of their first album, the horrendously titled ‘Futuristically Speaking… Never Be Afraid’. But still. I can remember being amazed when I realised that Van She Tech’s remix of the Utah Saints’ ‘Something Good’ was arriving a year after it first made contact with the blog world, but this is just something else again. I think I always just assumed that with the sort of prominence it picked up that it must have been officially released way back when.
Ah well, so here we are. A full release, with a suite of new(ish) remixes from the Stanton Warriors, Sunship, Matt Helder and Bless Beats. It’s a pretty solid track and, let’s be honest, the vocals are fucking awesome, so it’s good to see the original taken in a few new directions. My picks of the bunch are the Sunship and Stanton Warriors’ efforts, two variations which really could not be more diametrically opposed. The Sunship remix is a groovy, four-to-the-floor electro-disco track filled with appropriately sunny synths and bouncing CSS-style basslines, while the Stanton Warriors turn in a dark, booty-shaking breaks number, floating the vocals on heavy beats and dubstep-worthy bass pulses. Which is a pretty good summation of my increasingly schizophrenic musical proclivities these days. Light and dark, together at last.

As mentioned, the single is out now and can be picked up on vinyl through Domino or digitally in any number of dirty/clean//instrumental permutations through Beatport. Get on to it.

Hey big homie, where might I find that Bag Raiders remix? I wasn’t too hip to the blog game when this cut popped off.

Yo Majesty - Club Action (Chris Bag Raider’s Sailing to Baltimore Edit)
Decent. Much appreciated.
What IS up with that album title, by the way? It’s fucking rubbish, absolute poppy cock.
Cheers for the remixes, particularly Sunship. I get a little excited when I see a Sunship remix, I get a little excited and hope they’ll do something ala the kind of sounds they used to make with Mis-Teeq…
Damnit! I can’t purchase the Sunship dirty remix up in Canada, apparently, with the territory restriction at beatport. Fuck that shit!
oh man, that shits me so much. surely, SURELY we’re a bit over internationally staggered releases by now. do they not realise such retrograde strategies maybe, just maybe driving up piracy? although i would have assumed you might be fine being in canada. evidently not…
Uhhhhhhhhh… that Sunship remix is FIRE.
XXcellent remixes, Luke!!
