Really sweet n’ twinkly disco-house number here – I can only assume they’ve got the live arena in their sites. Here’s their debut, it’s got a fairly shattering downwards chord progression that starts innocuously enough until it pile-drives you into the subsoil at 1:40. Really sultry vibes – looks like Mitzi have a challenger..

Tiga’s Turbo Recordings is gracing Australian shores with it’s presence starting this weekend in Melbourne as part of the label’s 10th birthday celebrations. Tiga himself was a little tied up putting together his next album (with Soulwax and Jesper Dahlback) to make it but he’s sent his trusty label mates the Proxy and Thomas Von Party.

The Proxy’s Raven has held pride of place in many DJ’s decks as a midnight thriller (the dancefloor killer) and I have to admit that it took me a while to latch onto this “electro-rave” sound. Thanks to some Russian vodka and a hard night out on the tiles I started to get the enthusiasm for Proxy’s brand of brutal beats.

Alliteration.

No doubt all a large part of the Turbo Recordings back catalogue will get a spin including the likes of Jesper Dahlback, Chromeo, Boys Noize, Brodinski and ZZT. And of course Tiga.

Mindimensionmindimensionmindimensionmindimensionmindimensionmindimensionmindimensionmindimensionmindimensionmindimensionmindimensionmindimensionmindimensionmindimensionmindimension.

The tour takes in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth with the highlights looking to be the Blender kids in Perth and the massive Melbourne show at Roxanne parlour featuring the likes of Gus Da Hoodrat, La Mode, Boogs and 1928.

February 7 – Roxanne Parlor, Melbourne w/ Gus Da Hoodrat, La Mode, Boogs + 1928
February 8 – Sun Dance Music Festival, Adelaide
February 12 – Transit Bar, Canberra
February 13 – Blender @ The Manor, Perth
February 14 – Trashbags @ Plantation, Sydney.

Coincidentally enough I’ve also got a double pass to this Saturday’s Melbourne show to kick off the tour with a bang(er). Just shoot an email to ned@electrorash.com with your name, mobile number and how you like to get down.

For more tracks head over to the Proxy myspace and definitely check the Thomas Von Party myspace out, if only for the awesome background animation.

Now then, my raggedy subjects, I think we can all agree that this here is one ridiculously spiffing tower. I could quite easily fit a billion of my very expensive horses inside it, plus a good number of those little goaty things that are always lying about my stables, eating sandals and what have you. Bless their little hearts. Put your hand down, Darius, I’ve already told you I’m not replacing them. Now I wouldn’t normally do this, but my wife has written a song about the tower, and seeing as she was kidnapped by those wretched Sea People and will probably be forced to live on a tiny fishing boat and, you know, “polish the woodwork,” I think it would be nice if we all sung… look boy, I have warned you before, not so close. You see this? This is my personal space. And all the way over here, this is your personal space. If these two collide, well that’s when death plagues and salt pillars start to happen. How do I know that? More lifting and less questions! And stop scrunching the exquisite fabric up like that. I want them to see my royal cape from space! Ok, best voices now, sopranos first, one, two… Amittai! Will you tell your kid to keep it down over there? Everyone knows Biscuit bites because his humours are askew. Ok, one, two… whoa, headspin, slight earth tremor, did anyone else just feel that? Issachar! Stop rambling and wandering off! You’re our only tenor! Are you listening to me? Darius? Boy…? Hey… goaty things! Where did you come from? Good lord, you can talk? No, no, the pleasure is all mine! My throne room? Right this way!

With an accompanying clip featuring The Tough Alliance’s Eric Berglund and Henning Fürst praying and doing magical things with lasers inside Joos de Momper and Frans Francken the Younger’s the Tower of Babel (inexplicably), “Neo Violence”, the Swedish pop-perfect single from TTA’s third album, A New Chance (out on Modular now), has become even more awesome with a Shazam remix. The Perth-based Shazam, whose remixing efforts are a perpetual success as he renders any track he touches infinitely more lovely and dance-friendly, has somehow managed to fit even more gorgeousness into this track, which on its own is already brimming with it. The kid has such an ear for a melody. Keep an eye out for his upcoming Empire of the Sun remix, and Pool Party 12”, because they are going to be huge.

Well, I assure you that my love has waned naught in the interim, even if he hasn’t put out a wealth of new material over the last six months. More excitingly though, is the fact that he’s coming to town this month, kicking off his Australian tour this weekend with gigs in Perth and Sydney. Less excitingly, I miss these gigs due to a holiday with friends, but that’s no excuse for you to do likewise. He will be awesome, I assure you. I went to his gig in Melbourne last year and he absolutely tore the place apart. Here be the dates:

June 20 – Ambar, Perth
June 21 – Destination at The Cross, Sydney
June 27 – Mixed Messages, Melbourne
June 28 – Halo, Hobart
July 4 – Breaks and Enter at GPO, Brisbane

The Rogue Element has a new single due next month in the shape of a Panic Attacks/Sidewinder double A side, and this can be previewed on hisMySpace. Both tracks are pretty stomping, albeit in a more hard-edged, tech-breaks sort of vein. Still, a welcome return to the field for Mr Element. He should also have a full-length album coming out at some point in the next few months, so do keep your eyes peeled.

For your edification today I’ve attached his absolutely driving remix of ‘Minimal’ by Hardy Hard and Lady Waks (wait for it to properly unleash at 3:50 mark), as well as ‘Moves’ a charging b-side from his 2006 ‘Dead Drummers’ 12″. So worth the download. You can also pick up a set he recorded for Triple J’s Mix-Up last weekend from the ever comprehensive Breakz Linkz. So go on. Treat yourself to something different.

Finally, something to spice up the general monotony of Perth nightlife – a night devoted to reasonably monotonous Germanic techno. Yay! Tonight down at Shape we have all three of the above mentioned Berliners swinging through town for a ‘Beck’s Fusion’ session – close to the only proper techno evening this town has seen in a good solid year or so. I didn’t manage to frequent any of the famous Berlin clubs in my brief time there, which I kinda regret now, but hey, I’m sure this will recreate the non-stop 24 hour party mayhem that is a night out at the Berghain. Right?

Of course, those of you from over east may recognise all three of their names from the poster of the We Love Sounds festival, but hey, we don’t care that at our ‘We Love Ministry’ we were stiffed half the acts, had our alcohol cut off at 2 am, and had the festival scattered across three venues at least 5 minutes walk apart from one another that were plagued by massive queues whenever one wanted to change venue. And why didn’t we care? Because I got my ticket for free. Oh, wait. That’s ‘I’, not ‘we’. I had fun. And now back to the techno.

That’s Ellen Allien you see at the top of this post, who has possibly the coolest name of all time (well better than her real name, Ellen Fraatz), and whom I can never entirely work out whether or not I find attractive. It changes immensely from photo to photo I swear. Something about the nose… Still she’s one of the queens of the German scene, running the always influential BPitch label and DJing at pretty much every club of note in that country and beyond. She’s released 4 solo albums, one collaborative effort with Apparat (the amazing ‘Orchestra of Bubbles’ – highly, highly recommended), and last year put out a mix for Fabric that was audacious enough to include a 7 minute rendition of Thom Yorke’s ‘Harrowdown Hill’. She later described it as her idea of an ideal club set… could be interesting. Still, her production work is astonishing, and surely tens of thousands of coked-up German disco auteurs can’t be wrong…

Ellen Allien – Open

Ellen Allien & Apparat – Way Out

Modeselektor on the other hand = teh awesome. I’ve tried to explain Modeselektor to a few people over the past couple of weeks and have found myself fumbling wildly for appropriate genres. Kinda techno, kinda grimey, kinda hip-hop, kinda dubstep. But all sorts of cool. They ripped the blog world apart early last year with their incredible collaboration with Thom Yorke, ‘The White Flash’, but such downbeat adventures are far from representative of their sound. Although I’m still not entirely sure what that ‘sound’ is. Either way, from all reports their sets are absolutely cranking and I’m looking forward to hearing a couple of these on a brutally large sound system.

Modeselektor – Deboutonner (feat. Siriusmo)

Modeselektor – Hasir

And finally, Lindstrom. I don’t really know anything about Lindstrom, but here’s a pretty sweet little remix he did of LCD Soundsystem’s ‘Tribulations’ which somehow found it way into my iTunes library. So many hidden nooks and crannies in that thing.

Let’s be honest, the Future Music Festival is really only notable for one thing: the Chemical Brothers. And fuck me if I haven’t been waiting a long time to see them. And it’s going to happen tomorrow. And I’m going to get messy. With excitement. Of course, festivals being as they are, I have any number of hours during the day to fill in with other music, so here are a few of my other choice picks. With MP3s. As we are wont to do here.

Elite Force: Dark throbbing tech breaks at the sunny mid-afternoon time of 230 pm. That is some bang up scheduling Future. While their production work can be kinda dull, I saw these guys whip out a slamming set of hard as nails breakbeat in Brighton a couple of years back, so I’ll be keen how they hold up to the summer festival vibe. ‘Used and Abused’ is one of their more recent tracks, but again, they’re probably better at bringing the party in DJ form.

Elite Force – Used and Abused

Evil Nine: Following on from Elite Force, we have more driving bass and breaks madness from Adam Freeland’s favourite sons. Also mine. Although ‘sons’ may be misleading, as I’m pretty sure they have no idea who I am. The Evil Nine sound tends to overlay stomping beats with forever rolling bass and guitar lines, but when they put their minds to it they can do uplifting as well as anyone – listen to the attached remix of Alex Dolby’s ‘Hazy Way’ and try not to feel better about the world. I’ve also thrown in their reasonably hard to find remix of the Gorillaz’ ‘Feel Good Inc’, as well as the gloriously dark ‘Crooked’, the opening track of their 2003 album ‘You Can Be Special Too’, which features the vocal stylings of Aesop Rock. Who is also appearing at the Future Music Festival. And if he doesn’t come out and rap over the top of ‘Crooked’, I am going to shed a single tear.

Alex Dolby – Hazy Way (Evil Nine Remix) [HIGHLY RECOMMENDED]

Gorillaz – Feel Good Inc (Evil Nine Remix)

Evil Nine feat. Aesop Rock – Crooked [RECOMMENDED]

The Black Ghosts: A guy who used to be in Simian got together with a guy who used to be in The Wiseguys and produced some electro-rock. The rest is hyper-remixed electro hipster history. Which means it’s happening right at this moment. Should be pretty cool. Now let’s all enjoy their cover of Olivia Newton-John’s ‘Let’s Get Physical’.

The Black Ghosts – Let’s Get Physical

The Chemical Brothers: Sure they’ve never again reached the lofty heights of ‘Surrender’ or ‘Dig Your Own Hole’, but The Chemical Brothers are so crucial they’re almost a genre unto themselves. I’m not going to wax too rhapsodic about their masterworks here because, fuck it, they’re The Chemical Brothers (although I am convinced that ‘Private Psychedelic Reel’, ‘The Sunshine Underground’ and ‘Electronic Battle Weapon 8′ are quite possibly the best dance tunes ever created), but for the sake of difference I am going to attach the absolutely beautiful ‘Hold Tight London’, from 2005′s ‘Push the Button’, and ‘Here To Stay’, their collaboration with New Order from the soundtrack to ’24 Hour Party People’. Ooh, it’s going to be good.

The Chemical Brothers – Hold Tight London

New Order – Here to Stay (prod. The Chemical Brothers)

And, I’m pretty sure that’s plenty for one sitting. Enjoy!
