Tasmania’s finest purveyors of electro have returned from whatever purgatory electronic artists go to, with a dark new single from their forthcoming debut LP ‘A Personal Universe.’ ‘Because if I Die” was mixed in the UK by The Slips (Ladyhawke, Bertie Blackman) and Mastered at The Exchange in London by Nilish Patel.

Don’t know much about them except there from Melbourne and enjoy making fun of themselves and this certainly comes out in their music.

Rimpy Sed have taken an  interesting look at American infomercials, which at first glance i thought might result in a rather bland music video but it didn’t. Well there you go aYE!

Just try to stop this track from burrowing into your head and settling on repeat. As part of the lead-up to the Cassette Kids’ long-coming debut album, Nothing On TV, fellow Aussie, Diamond Cut, has been kept busy with the remixing obligations, the most recent of which is the first official single, Lying Around. It will be released this Friday to coincide with the Sydney-based quartet’s national tour which will run all through November before their full-length is released early next year.

While Freaky Sweetie saw Diamond Cut plunge unexpectedly into the depths of classic piano house, Lying Around sees him harden things up with a perfectly constructed piece of driving electro-pop. The whole thing is just so slick and effortless.

Not the biggest Scare fan, but they’re definitely riling some feathers with their debut Oozevoodoo (whatever the fuck that is/was/will be).

Their current single, Could Be Bad is being pummeled on indy radio around Australia right now, it’s hard to miss.. it’s a bit Paper Scissors, a bit Klaxons… maybe a really angry version of Dukes of Windsor even. Like Dukes of Windsor if they lived in Eltham, and weren’t Dukes, but peasants, working away their humble lives in servitude to someone.

Anyway. Here’s a sure-fire thing for y’all indy-disco DJ’s… great little weapon from Stereogamous, which reminds me slightly of that Test Icicles (not to be confused with the Testeagles) remix Digitalism did many moons ago, when i still had my virginity, red hair and that’s about it.

Hold up the crazy train and lock up your pets and the fragile elderly, because the Bag Raiders are coming and they are a, um, menace to, uh, pets… and the fragile elderly…

When I began that sentence I thought that I’d come up with a better way to finish it. I really did.

Sigh.

The Bag Raiders! Mighty scions of Australian electro! Purveyors of pounding house music! Potential petty thieves! Since 2006 the Bag Raiders have gone from being iconic early adopters of the Australian electro scene to being the remixers de jure of 2007 blog house to being Modular signed, national radio played, internationally touring dance party kings. It’s been a solid few years, really.

Most recently though, they’ve taken a break from remixing in order to drop their new single, and first release for Modular, the gentle, sunny and oh so Cut Copy ‘Shooting Stars’. It’s a fair cry from their usual balls-to-the-wall electro stylings (see, for example, previous singles ‘Turbo Love’ and, of course, ‘Fun Punch’), but it’s a lovely, Balearic piece of pop nonetheless and is being well rewarded with radio play from, well, pretty much everywhere. In support of the release they’re touring all around the country and, most pressingly for our purposes, find themselves at Roxanne this Friday, ripping the club apart with none other than the mighty Ajax. The DJ, not the cleaning product. It probably goes without saying though that this party will be rather massive.

But if you need further temptation, then here’s Kris Menace’s remix of Shooting Stars, which pretty much just picks up the sun-drenched vibe of the original and takes it to its logical, sunset-at-the-beach-with-all-your-friends conclusion. Really lovely.

Although I’ll always remember the Bag Raiders, because they were responsible for one of the first pieces of music I ever picked up from the early music blog scene, their funky but cryptic 8-bit rendering of LCD Soundsystem’s ‘Daft Punk is Playing at My House’, which was named, aptly enough, ‘Daft Punk is Playing on My Nintendo’. It’s hard to know how many people ever actually heard it, so I’m including it here for curiosities sake, but I’m sure we can all agree they’ve gone on to bigger and better things…

I’ve been obsessing over Olympia/Seattle-based outfit, The Nextdoor Neighbors, so hard since discovering them a few weeks ago. Ridiculously endearing, this offbeat electro folk/pop duo released their debut album, Magic Vs the Machine, on Bicycle Records late last year, and it’s quite an impish little affair. With Kathy Cotes on keys and Jessie Hill on vocals, they work the kind of innocence that you’d normally see smothered in irony, but here it’s nothing but refreshingly honest. And oh man, that voice. She’s probably sick of hearing it, but Hill sounds exactly like a young Khaela Maricich. There’s this captivating ease about her that at times sees everything in the periphery just melt away from those transcendent lilting vocals of hers before they settle back in and play off Cotes’ pretty melodies.

Formerly Cobra Dukes, then formerly What She Wants, UK’s Visitor are giving us the first glimpse of their brand new Diamond Cut-produced material with the cosmically-charged Los Feeling. It’s a terribly pretty, stirring voyage into the realm of shimmery stadium pop, and it’s of course had the labels scratching feverishly at their door for more. With remixes already on the way from Designer Drugs and Valerie’s Fear of Tigers, they’re running a remix competition from their Myspace page with the potential for the best remixes to be licensed for future releases.

If this track is anything to go by, Visitor are set to be massive, so pick up the Los Feeling stems at their Myspace page, and then trot over to their Twitter profile to follow their updates.

Bringing some much needed poise and distinction to the needle strewn cul-de-sacs of Sydney’s wanna-be-a-DFAster-electro and disco scene are So I’m Jo.

I caught So I’m Jo a few weeks ago at one of FBi’s ‘Please Save the Flip Out Of Us’ parties, and I was pretty impressed with their clean, shoe-gazey disco pop. It wasn’t all scuzzed out and peaking like so many live electro outfits I’ve seen. They were rehearsed, groovy and a lil’ bit hands-in-the-ayyyeeer at times despite the meagre crowd of 30 people spread across the 1000 capacity venue.
