Meet You Under Neon by Pluto Jonze

Pluto Jonze is one of those upsetting group of people who can not only play like Massive Attack, but have a knack for manually rejigging old TVs to create DIY, portable, atmos lighting. They can probably build Ikea floating benches first shot. Also they have a Theremin, the greatest tool fashioned by man since the toothpaste tube.

Always getting behind our local lads (oi oi oi n’ shit), this is a track from a WA four piece called Scenic.

Really sweet n’ twinkly disco-house number here – I can only assume they’ve got the live arena in their sites. Here’s their debut, it’s got a fairly shattering downwards chord progression that starts innocuously enough until it pile-drives you into the subsoil at 1:40. Really sultry vibes – looks like Mitzi have a challenger..

Trust it taking a couple of english ex-pats to deliver a proper deep night to Sydney… CO-OP have been running night’s in the harbour city for a year now, one of a select bunch of party crews who bolster Sydney’s dance scene against the ravages of electro mediocrity. They’ve hosted acts like MCDE, The Revenge and Motorcitysoul over the past 12 months.

To celebrate they’re holding an exclusive warehouse bash featuring Glasgow’s Harri.

Legendary in the UK underground, having helmed Glasgow’s Sub Club for many years – the same disco institution that recently hosted Optimogeddon.

Expect sparkle-tone beats and rolling house deeper than the your average loch.

Tommy Boy (of Arawa.FM repute) compiled this ridiculously informative mix for Vice mag entirely comprised of up-to-the-coming-to-the-already-here Texan electronic artists. Sublime chillwave, swollen deep-house, a smattering of drag and some breaky oddities. All in all, it’s crunchy like overcooked ribs. Or a chipped tooth.

Go on – learn about someone/thing new. Then stalk their places of work and tell ‘em Uncle Tommy sent you.

Since then artists like Erol Alkan, Aeroplane, Sinden and Fake Blood have all gushed embarrassingly about how much they love this three-piece from Adelaide.

In March they announced a national tour but for some reason they didn’t manage to include a Melbourne show so I’m thankful to the tastemakers at Animals Dancing for making this show a reality. It’s this Saturday the 17th of April at the Mercat Cross, 456 Queen St in Melbourne.

To say that I’m excited by this show is a massive understatement.

For the first time ever, 2ManyDjs are teaming up with LCD Soundsystem (James and Pat) for a three hour slam-fest, live on triple j radio. It kicks off from 10:00pm this Friday 8th on your wireless or streaming online.

The four guys will be going back to back, swapping records and running commentary on their selections throughout. Could be an absolute mess or it could also be the greatest radio show ever made ever.

I’m predicting this powerful joining of electronic deities will summon a deadly spacediscoanomaly over Ultimo towers that will descend upon central Sydney, crushing our brittle human frames like stale Jatz. It’s been nice knowing you.

Hold up the crazy train and lock up your pets and the fragile elderly, because the Bag Raiders are coming and they are a, um, menace to, uh, pets… and the fragile elderly…

When I began that sentence I thought that I’d come up with a better way to finish it. I really did.

Sigh.

The Bag Raiders! Mighty scions of Australian electro! Purveyors of pounding house music! Potential petty thieves! Since 2006 the Bag Raiders have gone from being iconic early adopters of the Australian electro scene to being the remixers de jure of 2007 blog house to being Modular signed, national radio played, internationally touring dance party kings. It’s been a solid few years, really.

Most recently though, they’ve taken a break from remixing in order to drop their new single, and first release for Modular, the gentle, sunny and oh so Cut Copy ‘Shooting Stars’. It’s a fair cry from their usual balls-to-the-wall electro stylings (see, for example, previous singles ‘Turbo Love’ and, of course, ‘Fun Punch’), but it’s a lovely, Balearic piece of pop nonetheless and is being well rewarded with radio play from, well, pretty much everywhere. In support of the release they’re touring all around the country and, most pressingly for our purposes, find themselves at Roxanne this Friday, ripping the club apart with none other than the mighty Ajax. The DJ, not the cleaning product. It probably goes without saying though that this party will be rather massive.

Although I’ll always remember the Bag Raiders, because they were responsible for one of the first pieces of music I ever picked up from the early music blog scene, their funky but cryptic 8-bit rendering of LCD Soundsystem’s ‘Daft Punk is Playing at My House’, which was named, aptly enough, ‘Daft Punk is Playing on My Nintendo’. It’s hard to know how many people ever actually heard it, so I’m including it here for curiosities sake, but I’m sure we can all agree they’ve gone on to bigger and better things…
