Canyons Remix Ladyhawke

For me this post is more about the remix artist than the original. Not that I don’t love and respect (and call in the morning) Ladyhawke but I think she’s already broken out on the scene, whereas Canyons are just about to.

I first heard about Canyons a couple of months ago when one of my best mates Roland was interviewing them for Pages Online where he is music editor. He got half way through the interview when he realised that we all knew each other from Perth. In fact Roland and I had helped find Leo’s wallet at a bar once (we also went to school together)!

Canyons are the aforementioned Leo, who frequently loses his wallet, and Ryan who has been playing in some really great funk and soul bands over the years including Flux Capacitor and Bobby Blackbird and the Bluejays (he was a Bluejay). Their sound is new disco meets jam band and is probably best summed up in the “Apples and Pears” single off their debut release The Lovemore E.P.

I like this remix of Ladyhawke’s “Dusk Till Dawn” because it’s different to the other treatments everyone else is doing at the moment. It’s not glitchy or minimal or jacked up: they’ve made it sound like it’s being played live out of that house party you can’t remember. That house party I wasn’t invited to.

Ladyhawke - Dusk Till Dawn (Canyons Garage Disco mix)

I am really looking forward to catch these now-Sydney based guys some time soon, all their material sounds like it would be even bigger live.

The Dusk Till Dawn E.P. with remixes from Linus Loves and The Shoes comes out on the 15th of September through Modular. In the meantime check out the Canyons myspace for details on the E.P., to hear more of their stuff and to show them some love. Also make sure you read the witty and insightful article in issue 52 of Pages.

i guess i came across a lil’ harsh. sorry. and i wasn’t bummed about the low bit rate - just the lack of originality alot of blogs have these days. different blogs. same songs. and yes, you may have been the first to post - i don’t know - but it just seems alot of blogs out there “copy and paste”. you guys DO have a strong blog regardless. guess i was just a ‘lil salty when i commented. i’m trying to not smoke soo much weed - and i’ve been a real bitch lately. kisses!

And we didn’t just relink the files. We don’t just relink any of the stuff we put up here.

Our whole approach is to add to the conversation, not the noise.

Glad you have chilled out. Now go save your pennies to buy the e.p. because it’s great.
