Good God, what a horrendous pun. I’m not even black. At least I didn’t go with my first title ‘Calling in Sick: An Adventure in Bile Inducing Awesomeness’. Ain’t no party like a bile party. Ask Ned.
Anyway, Calling in Sick are… ill. In a good way. CIS are two Sydney party boys who seem to be in the electro game mainly to enjoy themselves, which is great and all, but it’s also handy that their music does exactly what it’s supposed to i.e. bring the party… Man, now I’m tempted to do a Google image search for ‘bile party’… nah.
CIS are but young, having only been in existence since December last year, but they’ve still managed to smash out a number of corking tunes in that time, all of which have been shown much well-deserved blog love. I managed to completely sidestep their ‘Fun Punch’ remix, which is odd considering that it was posted up on at least 4 blogs I read every day, so it wasn’t until their phenomenal take on Midfield General’s already phenomenal ‘Disco Sirens’ (original here) fell into my lap that I started taking any notice. But fuck me, what a remix. I was a big fan of the original, but always thought a little more could have been done with it. As it turns out, I was right. This is pretty straight up banger territory, but the CIS boys have taken the original’s slamming vocals and distinctive sirens, chopped them up and then laid them over manic 80s keyboard riffs and a meaty electro-break to create one of the more charging tunes I’ve heard in recent times. So good.
Midfield General - Disco Sirens (Calling In Sick Remix)
CIS are finally getting some commercial recognition too, and have a stonking remix of Heartache’s new single ‘What Does It Mean?’ coming out on the US-based OMG Recordings in the very near future. After an innocuous piano-laden opening, this tune unleashes in true CIS fashion, pairing hard-edged synths with blistering raps and big build-ups. It makes for exceptional dancefloor fodder.
Heartache feat. Cujo - What Does It Mean (Calling In Sick Remix)
Their live show is just starting to gather steam, and I’m sure there’s plenty more party-making where this came from too, so head to their MySpace and get your friend on. You know you want to see what happens next…
