I have no idea what it is, but I cannot stop listening to this song. I mean, it’s almost absurdly cheesy fare, being a fairly straight up combination of soaring string synths, filtered choruses and bouncing rap vocals, but there’s just something so rampantly joyous about it that in the end it comes off feeling remarkably uncontrived. And remarkably addictive. A perfect summer anthem for the first day of southern hemisphere summer. Although given that the weather topped out at a showery 21 degrees today, I feel we’ve got a while yet before we can rip our shirts off in comfort.

Blänk – Shirt Off

Blänk are a duo from Luleå, a small town of 45 467 in Norrbotten in northern Sweden whose primary industry appears to be IT, and whose mean temperature in the height of summer is a toasty 14.7 degrees (someone’s been doing their Wikipedia research). But not being ones to let persistent darkness and sub-zero temperatures get in the way of a good time, Blänk are on a mission to show the world the true meaning of ‘Miami’. In complete disregard for the fact that Miami got there first. But, you know, all power to them. There’s an album in the works, from which ‘Shirt Off’ is the first single, and if it’s anything to go by then Muscles may need to look for a new job, because mindless, clap happy, sunshine electro has a new hero. Get your shirts off. NOW!
