Remix (2)I wouldn’t normally post a MGMT track, because they’ve received quite enough hype already, (albeit deservedly) but this remix was too good to resist. Jorge Elbrecht has really outdone himself with this one. The thing I find so charming about MGMT is their ability to combine whimsical innocence and amicable sarcasm, alternating them beautifully through the twelve tracks on their recent release, Oracular Spectacular. And then Elbrecht comes along and infuses Time To Pretend with so much psychedaelia that it becomes an entirely different creature, a swirling electronic kaleidoscope of noise and distortion. News, Release (2)So the world’s sexiest scientologist (pipe down, Tom Cruise, no one thinks it’s you) Beck Hansen, is rumoured to be releasing his new album in the next four to six weeks. And oh my god, four to six weeks is hardly enough time to prepare for my brain to explode with all the anticipatory excitement, so this is all very overwhelming. Apparently the rumour has been generated from MTV speaking to some of Beck’s friends/colleagues, so it could well be bullshit, but it’s still an amazing thought that we could be hearing the Danger Mouse-produced 11th (?) Release (2)With Strangers we find ourselves one step closer to Van She's full-length debut, V, which is set to be released at some stage in August on Modular. I couldn't be more excited about it, especially since Strangers is such a beautiful track. Sydney, Tour (4)Oh look, more festivals. With underwhelming line-ups. First up is the one I won't be attending: early June's We Love Sounds. It features some nice international names such as Bonde Do Rolê, The Bravery, !!!, Cassius, Mr Oizo and The Whip, plus some quality local acts.
